What do advanced homebrewers ferment 10 gallon batches in?

Like a few others, half barrel sanke is my go to with the 15 gal batches. Just threw 15 gal of chocolate oatmeal stout on a weaker brown ale yeast cake and it was blowing off within 2 hours. If you ever find one.. get it for fermenting.

Game of Thrones Take the Black Stout-had it?

Took a trip to England last year and wanted a bump up from the 3-4ABV English ales. A small pub in Lancaster had this Hercule Belgian stout. Very good if you can find it around. I attempted a stout with Belgian yeast twice now and both times it came out well. The first 5 gal batch was fermented...

How much do you keep in the pipeline?

I have 4 kegs on tap and 6 backup kegs. Since last fall I've kept all available kegs full.

Do you guys set a limit on your drinks?

Same here. When I started homebrewing I was doing 1 glass of wine during the week. That turned to 1-2 pints of homebrew. The wife would tell practically every person we'd hang out with that I drank beer every day, so decided to cut back during the week. That and an effort to drop a little more...

    Belma Hops

First time browsing this thread. I've had a lot of Belma in stock since last fall and used in several beers... IPA's and pales. One was heavily dry hopped. The comments about lack of aroma makes total sense. While I get a decent taste profile, I've been scratching my head at the lack of aroma...

Cut back on Beer because the belly is too big?

Right on! When I started homebrewing I went from 185-190 to 215 lb within 6 months because weekend drinking transitioned into 2-3 pints a night during the week. I totally cut out breads, pastas and other carbs so the beer could fill in those calories. I grow most of our food, so focus on veggies...

    White house beer

I ended up brewing this so it would be carbed and ready by early Nov. Not an exact clone as I did not have amber malt and used aromatic instead. I used my own honey from a June 2012 harvest (mostly poplar). Absolutely delicious ale. I've not used much honey in brewing yet, but heard somewhere...

    Heading to Boulder Co

Boulder Beer Co is my favorite watering hole when I visit once a year. Mojo IPA on Nitro... wonderful! Their food is pretty good to boot. Walnut Brewery is pretty good. I love their Indian Peaks Pale that's a great Cascades aroma pale. Happy hour food is well priced. BJ's Brewery use to be...

I've been getting free eggs from my spent grain

I dump my grain over my back fence into my neighbors woods. He has 12 hens and a rooster that love the stuff. I still pay him for the fresh eggs because we eat a lot of eggs, but enjoy the symbiotic quality of the whole thing. I take just about all garden scraps (spinach, lettuce, etc) back...

    Long night of bottling ahead

Congrats! I keg mostly, but bottle some of my stronger non-session beers or brews like porters and stouts. While it's not a super fun task, the feeling when finished of seeing cases of beer stacked on the floor is pretty nice. I had 3 batches ready this past weekend (2 brown ale, 1 IPA)...

Oyster Stout, the picture says it all

Just saw this thread. At first I went... what??? Now I'm intrigued. Just a month ago I got a 5 gal bucket of oysters at low tide in Bogue Sound here in NC. These were delicious. I plan doing this every Nov/Dec now and may have to brew up a 5 gal batch next year.

    I Never Take Measurements

I measure often, almost every time, but have forgot OG from time to time. I almost always measure the FG though, especially if it's a bottled batch. My only issues with FG have been with IIPA's.

    Just asking about my keezer

Looks good! About the same size as mine.

    How much do you drink?

Similar to other comments... I've found a balance. About 2 a night, usually less than a pint each. I'll mix an IPA or sometimes an IIPA with something less potent. Swim a 1-1.5 miles each night during the week, less one day on the weekend. This along with a pretty strict paleo-type diet during...

What I did for beer today

At work right now, but off tomorrow, so plan to have a few tonight :-) Checked my two brown ales and IIPA, bubbling has just about stopped and FG is very close as of a couple days ago. Gave my kegged IPA a shot of CO2.
