New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Brewing with Nectaron for the first time on Saturday. I have a ton of hops, but thinking of pairing it with Idaho 7 and another hop (citra, galaxy, mosaic, or riwaka). Plan is to use a small amount of home grown Columbus in the boil (this is something I pretty much always do) and I love Idaho...

Thanks! I'm going to use them soon and I'll report back. I have no prior experience with Nectaron, so I have nothing to compare it to.

Yeah, that's what I figured. I had 20% off so I ended up buying a small amount and may use them in a couple of weeks. Will definitely look to try and get the Yakima Valley crop as well.

Anybody use any Artisan Hops? I usually order mine from Yakima Valley, but I found they have Nectaron in stock here: Nectaron® Hops (Pellets) | MoreBeer

New England IPA New England Style TIPA

Actually turned out pretty good. Aroma is great, body is a little thinner than I'd like. However, I think I'll stick to my usual yeast next time. There is a flavor that is tough to describe in the first few sips, I'm not sure if it's the harvested yeast or the vic secret. After my palate...

That's what I was afraid of from reading the Treehouse yeast analysis thread all this time, but decided to give it a shot anyways. We'll see in a couple of days!

Brewed this base recipe a couple of weeks ago using Vic, Citra, Galaxy. Also, instead of using my regular yeast (usually 1318), I pitched a built up starter from a bunch of cans of Treehouse. Fermentation seemed to go great, but we'll see. I'll be kegging Thursday or Friday this week.

I've used LA III plenty of times and make a starter everytime. The starter usually has a distinct good smell, however, this time it smells like sulfur. Any suggestions? I tasted it and it doesn't taste sour or anything. I'm hoping it's just the gases from the starter.

I may have missed it in the thread somewhere, but what has everybody that uses Wyeast been doing with pitch calculators? They no longer list a "manufactured date," they now only list a "best by date." My current pack of Wyeast 1318 has a best by date of 4/11/21.

Sounds interesting. Care to share your hop schedule on this one? I've brewed with Riwaka and Galaxy a ton, but never Nelson.

Ended up at 9.54%. I also went with a grain bill to try and get closer to the srm of Trillium's Max Headroom. Thanks for all of the help with the hop schedule and everything. The extra time in the keg has definitely done the beer right.

Couldn't wait, so I tapped the keg today and it's fantastic!!! The Riwaka really stands out, I love the fleshy, tropical fruit rind character I get from it and the back end has the dankness from the Columbus. I'm honestly surprised that there isn't any hop burn from the Galaxy and Idaho 7...

Actually kegged it up this past Sunday and can't wait to try it carbed. I wanted to wait a couple of weeks to let everything settle in the keg, especially with the Galaxy and Idaho 7 dry hop, but I'm tempted to try some out this weekend.

Thanks for the insight. I love the Citra/Galaxy combo. I'll be brewing tomorrow and I'll check in with an update of the finished product. Cheers!

So, I replaced Nelson 1:1 with Idaho 7 in my recipe, but I don't have enough Citra (1.5 oz left). My question is, would you still leave the Columbus at 2oz if there's only 1.5oz of Citra or would you drop it to something like 1oz Columbus to 1.5oz Citra? Alternatively, I was thinking that I...
