Still really new to this whole home brewing thing so i was under the impression that the white labs stuff was significantly better than the dry yeast. Maybe i'll do the dry yeast with a starter and just harvest the white labs for practice.
Nice, i'm about a month away from being able to pull the trigger on brewing another batch so let me know how it comes out. Just seems crazy to keep buying a small vial of yeast for $6 when i have several in the bottom of the fermenting bucket.
I've got a batch in the primary that used this yeast and am going to attempt to harvest it after watching some YouTube videos on how to do it. Seems pretty simple. Can i use this yeast for a porter? I'll be doing a starter with it a day ahead. Its only my 3rd brew.....
If its 30 F here, we will ice fish in sweat shirts at the most. Cant wait to brew something up in the driveway this winter when it gets into the "teens." Neighbors will really think i've lost my bits.
Brewed up a batch today and used liquid yeast for the first time. I let it sit at room temp for 24 hours after it was in the fridge for about a week. When i opened the tube, it sort of fizzed up and smelt like alcohol. Is this normal or did i get bad yeast? it was white labs. It's only been...
i was going to leave the full batch in the secondary and then when i bottle, i will bottle all but the one gallon to try with the lime zest. probably zest from 2 limes.
Made a red ale a few days ago and i keep finding myself going to the fermenter to look at the air lock and try to smell the beer through the airlock. Feel like a little kid the day before Christmas waiting to open my new present.
