Greenlee Knockout Punch to Lend - 1-1/4"

Just wanted to update with unfortunate news, the Greenlee is dead :( At some point in the future, I'll get another or a different hard to find item and lend it the same way. Sorry for not replying to all the pm's. I've been rather busy with work, and haven't had as much time to spend here...

    Best Course of Action

I tried filtering today with a whole house filter, at 2 and 6 microns. Both failed miserably and I didn't want to spend anymore money on filters or possibly aerating it anymore. I was attempting to filter it on the way to the kegs via my March pump, but it was taking forever even at 6 microns...

Thanks for the quick replies! I think I might try filtering, I'll look into it today.

    Best Course of Action

OK, so Friday, I decided to brew an extremely last minute brew as a backup plan to make sure there was enough alcohol in an upcoming event. I've got 15 gallons of excellent brew to bring, but I thought I would brew an additional 17 gallons. Here's the kicker, I only have 8 days. Brew day...

    Money!!!

I love separate bank accounts. My wife and I also have a shared bank account, but our separate bank accounts save SO many unnecessary discussions about money.

H20 vs Ethanol Evaporation Rates in Barrel Aging

Distill a sample and measure the amount of Ethanol. It won't be exact, but should be pretty close depending on your methodology.

    Money!!!

I've been brewing for about 10 years now, and I just decided to dedicate a room in my house just for it - best brewing decision I've ever made. Part of the problem of brewing is getting out all the stuff and putting it all away when you're done. As a result, sometimes I wouldn't brew or I...

    SmartPond Pump Failure

Thanks for the tip! I'll see if I can get my pump working today.

    SmartPond Pump Failure

So, I'm using a SmartPond pump that I purchased from Lowes to cycle water through my Brewhemoth chilling coil. It was working great for a couple of weeks, but yesterday I noticed the fermentation temp of my beer was WAY cold. I ran down to the brewery to discover that the pump was chugging...

    Money!!!

Some people live in expensive houses, wear expensive clothing, drive expensive cars, and make expensive children.* I choose to spend my money on beer and brewing equipment :mug: * According to the WSJ, a child born in 2009 will cost, on average, $222,360 to raise to maturity.

    Brewhemoth Fermentation Chiller/Heater

And my pump died today. Well at least it was chugging really hard but not pumping anything. I haven't really stressed it that hard, and it's basically brand new. The only thing I can think is that my iodophor laced water gets "slippery" after a while and the pump struggles with that? Has...

    La Croix Clone

You could always send a sample to the lab to have it analyzed. Don't know if the citrus would throw it off, though. I would imagine you could get a good start that way. If you didn't want a cloudy water, you could clarify the citrus juice with agar, or just flavor with the zest.

    Brewhemoth conicals?

Did Kally ever do a write up of his CIP build, or is there another one that he inspired him? Just thinking about putting something together, so if anyone knows a link to a good abuild, please share. Looks like I'll be well off with a 1/2 hp pump. I would like the ability to clean kegs and...

off flavor - medicinal/band-aid - i know chlorine BUT help me solve the puzzle

+1 on the Brett. I was doing a sensory analysis with an Illinois State Wine Consultant, and he taught me to pick up Brett flavors in a couple of wines that were infected. It was a distinct Band-Aid flavor - but barely perceptible. The wine probably could have been sold as is, and most...

    Long Running Times for Pumps

If you wanted to get geeky about it, you could remote monitor with the BCS-460. You could rig a flow switch to trigger an alarm should something go afoul.
