    Homemade candi sugar - problem

Anyone ever make their own candi sugar using a method similar to this? https://joshthebrewmaster.wordpress.com/2010/11/27/how-to-make-belgian-candi-sugar/ I've done it 12 or more times, and it always came out clear and amber (darker the longer the sugar was cooked). Today when I did it...

What does your LHBS charge for bulk grain sacks?

Thingsbeer (at Michigan Brewing Co. in Webberville, MI) sells 50# Briess Pilsen for $35 (they just lowered their prices on Briess malts). I think the pale malt is about the same.

Star Anise - how to use?

Thanks for the input everyone. Bob, that's exactly the kind of effect I'm looking for. I'll be using a single star in the boil for 15 min or so.

Star Anise - how to use?

I'll be brewing a strong dark Belgian ale and am considering trying star anise (and maybe some bitter orange peel). I've looked all around for how to use the star anise but got a lot of confusing information as far as quantities and length of boil. I've seen suggestions of teaspoons, fractions...

What's the longest you've ever aged a homebrew?

That sure looks official, Beer Inspector. I better dig that one out and send it along for testing. ;-)

What's the longest you've ever aged a homebrew?

I have a box that's been buried in my basement for years with a few bottles from my earlier brewing life, 1990 and 1991! A pale ale, an altbier, a pilsener, a "Christmas" beer. None of them is a "big" beer so I don't hold out much hope for them. They weren't great back then. In that same...

All Grain from Amazon.com... seems really nice... oddly CHEAP

It wasn't free shipping for the 8 oz hop sampler. I put 2 of them in my shopping cart and shipping was $11+ on a $33.80 order.

    Coldest weather brewed in?

Funny, -40 is the temp where farenheit meets centigrade!

    Kirkland brand beer

Trader Joe's has a really nice dark abbey style beer made for them by Unibroue. I think they call it Vintage Ale 2008.

    Tastiest thing you've ever brewed?

I'm only 8 brews into it, but I'd say my favorites are my Monkberry Moon Delight Tripel and In The Details strong golden. Both very similar with different hoppings and different yeasts.

    Barley Crusher Help!

Among the many reasons that I would never stand for a 3+ hour runoff is that I might have to watch the Lions!

    Barley Crusher Help!

0.025! Isn't the factory setting .039? That's a huge difference. I keep mine at .039 except for wheat, for which I change it to .037.
