    Coffee Vanilla Porter Recipe Suggestions?

Hello, Any suggestions on a recipe for this type of porter? I would probably rather have a stronger vanilla flavor than coffee, but I'm open to all suggestions. I am fairly new to brewing, aka, only 4 batches under my belt. Also, I have only done extract kits with specialty grains thus...

Red Amber Ale converted to Pumpkin Ale

Thanks for the good info. I will "patiently" wait another 3 weeks.

Red Amber Ale converted to Pumpkin Ale

Hello, I've been reading, on this forum, that a pumpkin ale should ferment in the primary for 3-4 weeks. I am confused by this because I thought you should bottle the beer after the fermentation has subsided? Does a pumpkin ale really take three to four weeks to ferment, or is there...

    Time to Bottle?

Hi, I forgot to take an original SG, but the target SG was 1.038 - 1.058, and I just took a FG reading of 1.008 (this is in the target FG range). The beer is done fermenting, but it only fermented for 7 days. Should I let it sit in the primary for another week, and then bottle? Or...

Failure and Success in the same batch!?!

Is that even possible? So I completed brewing my first batch of beer, and it turned out fantastic! It's amazing the difference a week can make in the bottling process. The 2nd week beer was much better than the first week beer. I can't wait for the 3rd week. Thanks for the help fellow...

    Didn't clean bottle caps

So I think I may have made a mistake. I just bought some bottle caps, figured they were clean, and just soaked them in starsan. Is this ok, or should I have boiled them first, and then dropped them in starsan? I just bottled my first batch of beer, so there is no turning back now...

    Fermentation lock bubbles (too slow?)

Hey all, I put my wort in the carboy on Saturday, and the initial fermentation has subsided. Now my fermentation lock is bubbling about once every 20-30 seconds. Should it be bubbling more, or is this about average? I did a search and the only thing I found is that it bubbles like...

Rookie Mistake (No Blow out tube) OOPS!

Oh, and I should mention it's not a cork on the better bottle, but one of those Orange tops with two out holes. I'm not sure what it's called.

Rookie Mistake (No Blow out tube) OOPS!

So.... I brewed my first batch of beer this Saturday. Everything went well until this afternoon. My fermentation was happening slowly, so I thought. I wasn't able to check my batch this morning, but when I came home from work it had blown out the top. I had the cork and fermentator lock...

1st brew: All extract or Kit w/grains?

Thanks a lot for all the replies. Blender, I used the store you suggested, and they were great. I ended up going for a specialty grain kit like everyone suggested. The kit I chose is suppose to be close to that of the dogfish 60 minute IPA. I had a lot of fun doing it, and I hope I made it...

1st brew: All extract or Kit w/grains?

Hey brewers, First off, I am glad I stumbled upon this site. I am looking forward to the wealth of information on this site. I have been reading "The complete joy of Home Brewing" and have a question. The author suggests making your first brew from a hop "flavored" malt extract, and...
