Haven't made beer in a while

For a few reasons I haven't brewed in quite a long time. For two years I brewed at least twice a month and still have dozens of cases of bottles form that period of time. I started exercising and changing my diet last year and my thirst for beer and rich food decreased. But I also lost my...

    OG for Sweet mead

I'm gonna go home and take a FG reading. At first I didn't want to use a hydrometer but I remembered I have a refractometer (silly me!) and it isn't like wasting wort in a flask/hydrometer anyway, since I can just drink it up right away at a pretty good serving temp anyway. Also, this was my...

    OG for Sweet mead

Cool, thanks. Can I describe my method and if you have further comments, share them please? Thanks! I read Schramm's book and basically did what he says to do for the first, simplest recipe, but scaled down to fit in a Mr Beer LBK and using honey in weights my LHBS sells. So I heated bottled...

    OG for Sweet mead

Thanks. I know it would be an approximation. I mostly want an estimate of what the OG was, and I found the sticky with a calculator for that, just a minute ago. Then I was going to use the average attenuation % of the yeast I used to make an estimate. I might take a FG reading too. Thanks a lot.

    OG for Sweet mead

I made my first mead about six months ago, bottled it and drank some yesterday. I didn't measure the gravity at all, can you guys help me in calculating an approximation of what the ABV is, or point me to some tool I could use to get the numbers? I used 7.5 lbs of honey, fermented in my LBK...

    Post NHC blues...

It is a bunch of people all with a tasting glass and free beer all over the place, hangning out at a hotle for three days. The AHA sent this link in an email, it explains it well. I don't know if you have to be an AHA member to read it...

    Post NHC blues...

Do any of you remember the Yeastside bar on club night? Near the main doors to the Conference Center, a guy on the logo is holding a glass up, wearing welding goggles...

    Post NHC blues...

I can't be the only attendee who is still thinking about NHC and remembering some of the cool stuff, wishing a little it wasn't over already, stuff like that. Wish I had more/closer brewing buddies I could talk it over with in person, or a specific meeting with my club (Yeastside Brewers) to...

NHC 2015 San Diego- roll call!

Cool. It'll be big but I imagine with smartphones/websites/people everywhere and everything, it won't be hard to find people. I am making this a family trip, my wife and four kids are going too, we're staying at the Hampton on Hotel Circle, so I'll be back and forth, I hope I can enjoy both...

NHC 2015 San Diego- roll call!

This is a long thread... is there a meetup arranged for HBT? I'm in Los Angeles, gonna be in SD Thursday-Sunday. Friday I'll be at the club night with Yeastside Brewers. Volunteering at a couple seminars Friday and Saturday. Judging on Thursday. I don't know a whole lot of people on...

    Fermentation restarted during dry hopping?

Necropost I know, and if there are other threads more relevant please link. I looked through a couple but I'm sure there are a lot more. I brewed Northern Brewer's Mongoose EIPA 3 weeks ago, with S-04. Primary for two weeks at 66-68, transferred to secondary with 2 oz EKG a week ago. Still...

    Safbrew T-58

I am making an oatmeal cookie brown ale for Christmas. Guy at LHBS who shared recipe uses a liquid belgian yeast, suggested T-58 as a dry substitute. Pitched 9pm Saturday, was fermenting within 12 hours, very active by end of the day. It was really active yesterday, throughout the day, today...
