    Need help with water schedule

I am going to do a Founders Red Rye clone full boil with an estimated finished 11 gallons. I am using 13 pounds of grain with 8 pounds of DME. I am thinking I should do a partial mash using 13 gallons total. Start with 3 gallons steeped for 45-60 min @ 150-155 degrees. Then sparge with 10...

    Final gravity and airlock activity?

I brewed an amber IPA 13 gallon full boil using 12# amber DME and almost 4 pounds of specialty grains. I used 2 - 6.5 gallon carboys with a starter of washed WLP001 yeast in each. Ended up with almost 6 gallons in each carboy. Now after 4 weeks and seemingly stable gravity, both carboys still...

Looking for hop rhizomes to order yet this year?

I dropped the ball and didn't order any hop rhizomes early this year. I found a spot at my parents to put some posts and wire to grow horizontally. Now I have called a few places and no luck. Anybody know of any available or am I SOL until next year? Thanks in advance.

I will not let the rain stop me!!!

I like it... I do this every year for deep frying several turkeys for Thanksgiving. On a side note, you should check on that chimney step flashing... looking a little rough:D

Are all non-twist bottles safe for bottling?

I really like the Fat Tire & Sierra Nevada bottles. In fact just bottled 10 gal of a SNPA clone. We also have a local brewery, Back Road Brewery, that uses very heavy, thick rimmed bottles. Great beer also, but I think they use super glue and vinyl for labels.

Help with clone recipe with hop IBU's

I think so. I read deathbrewers sticky along with other partial mash threads and looks like I will have to dunk sparge. I have a 15 gallon, 4 gallon and a 3 gallon stock pots. This will be my first partial mash, so far, I have only done steeping and extract brews.

Help with clone recipe with hop IBU's

I'm going to do a partial mash clone of Founders Red Rye Ale. I researched this forum as well as a couple others, used Hoppville and BrewTarget ( since they are free) to get the numbers I was looking for ( both were exact numbers) and this is what I can up with. Mash amount: 7 gallons Boil...

    10 Gallon Extract

I just did a full boil in a 15 gallon pot starting with 12 gallons outside on a turkey fryer. I did a 40 minute steep of grain and a 60 minute boil. I racked just under 10 gallons split into 2 carboys.

Easy Partial Mash Brewing (with pics)

I have recently switched to a 15gal pot for full boils. I start with 12 gallon and end up with 9.5-10 gallon to rack to carboys. I have been doing grain steeping and DME batches and now wish to do some rye grain. Can I mash my grain in say 8 gallons of water in my big pot and sparge in 4...

    DME vs. LME

I also prefer DME as I have used both, but I keep reading how LME needs to be fresh. I like to store several batches ahead in food grade buckets and order my DME from DMEmart.com. Briess 12# shipped priority mail for $45. I usually order 24# at a time. You can mix and match in 3# bags...

Please critique my 12 gallon full boil partial grain process

Hope this is the right section for this... I'm not sure if I'm steeping or partial mashing? So as a newer brewer with 8 batches under my belt, I decided to go to a full boil. I've done a few kits and a few clones and now a few of my own recipes. Only problem was I couldn't brew it fast...

    bottle conditioning hoppy pale ale

Yep. All my brews are stored in low to mid 60 degrees. As noted above, takes about a week longer. I try mine after three weeks conditioning.

Why do brewers buy Chico yeast?

Friday, my grain will be in and this weekend I'm doing my first full boil of 12 gallons start in my 15 gallon pot. I'm doing a SNAP clone and will do two starters and hopefully end up with 5.5 gallons in two carboys. The yeast is WLP001 that cost me $9 at the lhbs, I have washed and brewed 5...
