I moved from downtown to Avon Lake. Have two brews under my belt in the new place. Waiting 18 months on a Oud Bruin, and just did a Vedette clone using Kviek (A44). Brewed a few times downtown, but having a HOUSE is superior to apartment living, for sure! Cheers!
Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but yes these statements are correct. The best bet I've found is at Jolly Scholar on the Case Western University grounds. Excellent!
Depending on your Alcohol Control Board, County and even City regulations, you might be stymied trying to sell off prem (premise). There is a LOT of research to do at the Federal, State, County and Municipality level to ensure you are in compliance. Often, you can get permission for Events...
Whoa! There are a lot of negative responses here, and some down right bad information. Let's start with the idea you need $1/$2 million. Pure BS and hyperbole. We started a brewery AND restaurant for $500k (Augustino's in Wichita, KS). The Brewhouse and Taproom were executed for $250,000...
Forcing the circulation will ensure you do not have any thermal "dead" areas. I'm not sure if the volume of this system applies, but on the 3.5bbl electric Blichmann system we used, we needed to circulate the water to ensure we had no pockets of under-temp water. I guess you could heat long...
My first experience with over night mashing was a huge success. Come October I plan on a repeat of a 1c - a little less of the rice adjuncts this go around. If it tastes the way I hope, I'll post the recipe. Cheers for Overnight Mashing!
Interesting. My hope was to have the Apple and Pear tastes that were described on Austin Home Brew's website. It doesn't sound like you had those either though. Interesting description you've noted with the mint-like flavor. I might revisit Calypso in the future.
I will say, they are...
My experience with the Calypso hops -- great bittering, flavor and aroma profile greatly exaggerated in the write-ups at the stores selling these hops. I detected no flavor or aroma when I did a SH brew with Calypso.
I neglected to request BMW to separate out the Maris-Otter :( I ended up using 1 gallon of "soured" Guinness. I like the sourness I achieved, and hope to be able to produce a more exacting version of your recipe within the next few months. Thank you very much for putting this out there -- I...
Interesting take on the Calypso -- I find them to lack a lot of what is advertised about them. The best use for them I've found -- bittering. They have a long lasting bittering effect. I do not like the flavor addition or (lack of) aroma they offer. I purchased them based on this thread and...
