    Growler reuse

We buy the black plastic caps like these: http://www.homebrewers.com/product/4340/38-mm-Polyseal-Caps.html?meta=GBASE&metacpg=4340&utm_source=gbase&utm_medium=CPC&utm_content=&utm_campaign=4340 They work great for us. The regular caps that came with the growlers are generally pathetic.

Mine was not doing so hot as of last week... hoping that it's had time to turn. I'll probably drop off on Thursday.

    Hello... new from West Michigan

Might be worth waiting until they finish their renovations.... the place is pretty torn up right now but should be SWEET in a few months when the expansion is finished.:mug:

It was pretty poorly organized for distribution. But everything they put out about the contest said signups began at 11am. I totally agree about the one per household but it would be awfully hard to enforce. I'm just glad that they kept out the people who were pretending that they were on...

I am debating whether I steep in separate water and combine, or just steep in the wort preboil. A bit unorthodox but I think enough of the rye character will show through for what I want.

It's a "minimally boiled" Michigan Pale Ale malt. http://bellsbeer.com/eccentric-cafe/homebrew-competition/

Nice! My rye pale ale was the original idea... I am starting to second guess myself, though, as the guy behind me in line was planning on brewing the same thing!

heylookasensai- I thought about that too, but they only give 4 labels for entry into the competition for each 5-gal... are you just planning on entering the two of the four that turn out best?

    Bottling Dry Hopped Beer Question

I put a mesh bag on the end of the siphon hose into my bottling bucket and it seems to have kept most of the "flakes" out of my IPA. Not sure if it is the preferred method but I didn't really think through the dry hopping process so I did what I could to remedy.

    Hello... new from West Michigan

I posted in another part of the forum and realized I should probably do an introduction. I am a new homebrewer from Kalamazoo, MI (home of Bells Brewery) :) Still doing extract brews on the stovetop but I think I'm investing in some equipment upgrades pretty soon. One question that I have...

It was insanity there. We got there right at 11am to sign up for time spots and got one at 1:40. I felt sorry for the suckers who showed up after noon. They had a 50+ person waiting list.

My first post on this board (have done a few weeks of lurking but no posting)... but yes, I am doing the competition... thinking about a Rye beer... but still browsing for ideas.
