    slow mead fermentation

Update two weeks after adding yeast nutrients (when ABV was 2.6%), and 24 total days after first pitching yeast. Took a gravity reading today, and we're sitting pretty at 1.010. My trusty ABV calculator says we hit 13.13%. Seems like you guys were right and my yeast required nutrients!

    slow mead fermentation

Thanks guys. I went ahead and pitched a teaspoon of my urea and diammonium phosphate yeast nutrient. I'll keep you posted if over the next few days - all things being equal - the bubbling speed increases

    slow mead fermentation

Thanks for the reply. I gave the carboy a good swirl this morning. I have some yeast nutrient by LD Carlson which i often use for beer brewing: Should I pitch a teaspoon straight into the mead? Or should I order a different nutrient cocktail? What about the yeast? I could order more Lalvin...

    slow mead fermentation

Hi guys, i'm an avid home brewer and have for the first time ever taken a stab at making mead. I sourced three pounds of good, local honey and made a one gallon batch. The OG was 1.110. To that I pitched half a package of lalvin d47. Four days later pitched the other half of the pack because...

    extremely bitter brown ale

I went ahead and dry hopped it with an ounce of citra and it elevated it to a very decent beer. The citrus notes really worked well with the bitterness and made it a lot more mellow. Overall I would give it a 7.5/10 up from a 3/10 originally. Thanks again @ all for the support

    extremely bitter brown ale

Understood and I am sure that the bitterness would have been less overpowering had the wort not been on the heat with the bittering hops for nearly double the time... As it stands now nearly all I can taste is the bitterness and I believe some sweetness might in fact mellow out the bitter...

    extremely bitter brown ale

I may have brewed my first bad batch here... I am hoping that it can still be saved and am looking for suggestions. Basically the beer tastes extremely bitter and did so coming straight out of the kettle. I kegged it three days ago after I had it fermented at 70F for about 15 days and it's still...
