    Jokes Dirty or otherwise

A young guy is fed up with the city life and decides to follow his lifelong dream and buy a small ranch in Montana. After living there for a few months, a large Cadillac pulls up the drive one afternoon, an older cowboy steps out, looks around and says "Boy, I sure like what you've done with...

Where to get kegs in/near St. Louis?

A lot of the local brewery's will sell kegs as well. If you are a member of one of the local brew clubs a discount is usually offered.

    Super Walmarts suck!

I like the big Wal-Marts, they have more motorized carts than anyone else. That is such a bigass store that I get tired of walking through all of it I am glad that I can cruise the aisles and fill my cart with their goods.

    any regrets going electric?

Zero...Nada...Zilch....love it and have no regrets. My brewday is faster and more consistent. I am running a 5500w element on a PID and consistently hit my boil off target. Price wise it is a lot cheaper than gas and always available.

Simple Conical Fermenter Cooler Idea. Will this work?

That is what I am doing with my plastic conical. I coiled some 5/16" SS tubing and pump water thru it with a Harbor Freight pond pump. I placed a 2.5 g container of water in my keezer and tied it to an e-bay aquarium temp controller. My keezer doesn't get to freezing, but you will freeze if...

    PID question

No, it doesn't control the percent of power going to the element. It turns the element on for the for percent of time you have it set at over the course of 5 seconds (just guessing on the 5, someone may know exactly what timeframe it is.) I set mine at 80% after a I get rolling boil and it...

Do you count your starter in the volume?

The 5.5 gallons it is calculating is what you want after the boiling and chilling, this is what your efficiency calculations are based on. As others said decant the liquid from the starter and pitch, any volume increases from the pitch are ok and are in addition to the target 5.5

    Filtering anyone?

I have been thinking about filters, but have wondered what type of yield loss you experience, if any, to filters?

    dry hop question

I rack it to the keg with my auto-siphon and I have not had any trouble sending any to the keg. Worst case if some hops are transferred, the first pint pulled will have some foreign matter, but will clear after that.

    Adding Orange Zest while kegging?

Might be able to use a tea ball to keep from clogging the dip tube.

If 5 ft of Bev Line isn't enough.....

I was fine with the pick-a-nic taps, but when I went to faucets it was foam city. Rather than getting a longer hose, I enhanced it via this thread: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f35/cure-your-short-hose-troubles-100151/ The pour is slow, but it sure eliminated the foam problem.

want to build an electric smoker

check out Auber Instruments. They have some ready to go out of the box, or you can piece meal your own. I ended up making my own for <100 bucks and hooked it up to a 1500W heating element. Temp control is spot on.
