Pappy`s Pub Cider - Award Winner!

Sounds like a solid plan TGFV, let us know what your FG come out to. Mine is still bubbling away so i still can not toss in my cinnamon or anything...

Well, if you did twin batches they should have around the same SG and both should drop to around the same SG if you used the same yeast in both. So if one dropped and the other did not it is safe to assume the first batch stalled. You would need to re-pitch and probably use something to help it...

Paps you magnificent B@@@@, this stuff is fantastic! I snuck some out of the carboy on day 29, SG is down to 1.028 but it is still bubbling away. I added a bit of yeast nutrient/energizer to help those little guys finish strong on the last leg. I was surprised by how smooth it was. I read a lot...

    First BIAB Brew

I normally try and not to withhold very much wort when starting the initial boil but sometimes it is necessary. If i do end up withholding some I try to add it in as soon as the boil off will let me or I end up just boiling it in a smaller pot next to the the main kettle if I have a lot of...

    First BIAB Brew

I use a ~5 g kettle and do BIAB as well. I use a second pot to sparge in. It really is not anymore complicated and works great to increase fVOL as well as efficiency. As long as you have the counter space to work with that is...if your in tight quarters it may just be a lot of equipment to have...

globell did you try oak and vanilla? Also, how much oak chips did you use? I DO have 1 x 1g carboy so I could toss some off to the side in that and work with something a bit more adventurous. I talked to a lot of people about bottle carbing this and we all worked out that the only way to...

Pappy`s Pub Cider - Award Winner!

Hey guys I started a batch 3/16/17, getting super excited about the eventual product. My blow off is still going strong so I know I am not close to ready quite yet. I had a few questions for those more experienced then I. I wanted to do the cinnamon since everyone raved about it but I also saw...

    First BIAB Brew

If you have hop bags (same stuff as BIAB bags) they work wonders to quickly remove the hop sludge out so you do not have to worry about it. You just pull these bags out before you toss everything into the fermenter. If you do not have these bags, then just everything into the fermenter and it...

Currently mid mash, have i ****ed it all?

Once the wort cooled back down I am not sure many tannins would be extracted off the grain but realistically you probably were not going to get a lot more fermentables off them either. With you addition of the sugar and your complex malt you may have a decent beer if the hops are not...

    First BIAB Brew

You can use a kettle, with the bag/false bottom, to do your mash and boil. If you intend to cool in the kettle as well I would suggest an ice bath or PURE ice added to your kettle post boil. If you are doing smaller boils the space left in the kettle after the grains are removed can replaced...

Currently mid mash, have i ****ed it all?

Your pOG and aOG are way off...Unless you are doing a smaller volume I am not sure how you are going to get closer to your pOG post boil. Also, did you end up putting the grain back into the mash after it cooled?

    What brewery are you visiting?

@ Sprecher this last weekend, one of my favorite places in Milwaukee and the beer and cheese pairing is amazing

    Made it to BIAB

Someone suggested the oven for me and it works amazingly. Your kettle looks to be the same size as mine, would it fit?
