    tips for small space brewing??

Hey guys - I live in NYC and brew pretty regularly in my apartment I typically keep to 2 gallon brews (for space's sake), but I was wondering if you guys had some tips / hacks for being more effective with less space. My set up is pretty streamlined, but I'm sure I could be doing better. For...

10 days in the primary as long as fermentation has finished is fine.

    Stirring spiced secondary

OP, your descriptions of oysters and putty would scare me :) I brewed a pumpkin ale that I ended up spicing in a secondary, and though I wanted to use pumpkin spice I ended up using cinnamon sticks and candied ginger out of fear that the ground spices would create a sludge that wouldn't filter...

    Secondary fermentaiton question

duboman got it right, it sounds like sanitation went wrong the first time around. this time, no need for a secondary in a basic beer unless you think you won't be able to bottle for a long time (3+ months).

    Exploding and rupturing containers.

hey op - I've been there. brewing on low funds is a real pain, but there's no reason why it can't be done effectively. you can pick up used plastic jugs from grocery stores and delis, and airlocks are only a buck and change. it's always a shame to see beer get lost because of avoidable problems...

    dry hop primary question

i wouldn't sweat it, especially since the style doesn't lean too much on the hops for flavor. let us know how it comes out!

    dry hop primary question

out of curiosity, what was the hop schedule for the brew, and which ones did you miss? if you missed the finishing hops completely the grassy/piney/floral aroma might be lacking, but you'll definitely be able to compensate with dry hopping. if you missed the flavoring hops, there won't be a...

Just brewed imperial Stout. What temperature is best to ferment at?

60F is about right. what's your room temperature and where do you live? you likely can't sustain an ice bath for the duration of fermentation, and it'd probably be too cold for a stout anyways.

help! i added priming sugar early, thoughts on adding more?

thanks for the feedback guys. so the safe move is (as always) to wait - would the right move have been to measure the gravity of the beer after adding the priming sugar to see if it had been converted? i don't think the priming sugar would throw off the gravity reading that much but at least i'd...

help! i added priming sugar early, thoughts on adding more?

hey guys! thanks for all the help so far, i searched for an answer to this but came up no clear answer as it pertained to me, so here goes. i prepped my pumpkin ale for bottling 3 days ago by racking it to my bottling bucket and adding the priming sugar. naturally, that's when i got the idea...

    Pliny for 3F Zombie Dust

do you live in Illinois? I'm in NYC, anything you're interested in? I can usually get some hard to find collaborations from some of my local contacts, and I'm planning on heading up to The Alchemist very soon.

    time to become a brewer?

what schools / online schools are you talking about? i've been pouring over books and forums, but hadn't considered actual classes. i'm not too concerned about the "other stuff" right now since it's just a notion, but long term i know i'll have a good group helping me out. i'm definitely...
