I know this is an old thread, but I decided to tag on since I recently discovered ground cherries and am thinking and making a mead with them. Has anyone used them in a mead. Any suggestions as to fruit qty to use?
I am thinking to puree the berries, but am open to other options.

If anyone is interested I will be serving my version of this at HomebrewCon this weekend. Look for the West Chester BUZZ club booth.
It is Imperial scotch Stout - aged on Laphroaig
The beer I brewed with the recipe shown in my original post came out great! I already need to brew a new batch. I took the keg to a small party where many were skeptical of homebrew, but they went back for more and more of this brew.
The beer tastes close to summer love based on my beer...
If you are beginners you probably do not want to do a lager, it requires chilling to ferment. Victory mentions the hops they use on the website and Saaz is not one of them. While you can make a wonderful beer with Saaz, I do not think it will help you make a summer love inspired beer.
Not sure...
I mashed at 153 and hit the 1.053 OG exactly, so I am happy there. Due to accidental mixing we ended up with 1# of carapils in the grain bill. I have been having good luck with the 05 yeast, and consider it my house yeast at this point. I think the beer should be well attenuated for the crisp...
I had a Summer Love on tap at Riverstone (gotta love $3 victory brew and Buck a shuck oyster Wednesdays) the other night and decided to brew a Summer Love inspired beer this weekend. Went to Artisan and got the ingredients today for the following recipe variation that I came up with.
Anyone...
Just an update on this brew. I brewed in Early Sept 2012. Left it on Laphroig soaked oak chips for about 5 weeks, and moved it to a secondary after. In Feb I put it into a keg, but still though it had a sharp flavor and a strong astringent note to it. My OG was 1.092 and my FG was 1.02 for about...
I am looking at doing a Irish Red over the weekend so I will have some for St Patty's Day. First time posting a recipe, so looking for feedback if anyone has suggestions. I based my thinking mostly from this one https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f65/irish-red-1st-place-hbt-comp-141086/ but wanted to...
Wow,
I saw the notice during the week and figured I would wait until the weekend to deal with it. I guess no Rye for me this round. Put me down for a TF-RYEA to get next round started.
I used about 2 oz of oak chips. I truly wish I tracked how long I left them in, but my best guess is is 5 weeks. I think I left it in a bit long, but it is hard to tell. First time using chips in any beer for me, so I am just guessing.
Glad to hear it still mellowed.
I brewed this in early september and tasted last week. It does seem to be mellowing from when I first put it in the secondary. Was hoping for a nice holiday gift, but I think I may delay bottling more. I put Laproig soaked oak chips in, and the peaty flavor of...
