Looking for North Central PA and Western NY Brewers / Winemakers...

Looking for brewers/winemakers in the North Central PA and Western NY region for a local club. I recently moved from Erie, PA to a small town called Shinglehouse, PA. The closest form of civilization to my new house is probably Olean, NY, 25 miles away... LOL I did some searching on the...

    making a measuring stick

The guys on the Brewing Network had a good idea on one of their programs.. - Take a length of copper pipe. - Solder a cap on each end. - Use the pipe cutter to put a nice ring around the pipe at whatever increments you want. - There you go, a copper measuring stick.

Using a fridge/freezer combo for lagering

Well, I set the fridge thermostat to the coldest setting and my thermometer reads 29 degrees. Should be cold enough. Finishing up the temperature control, I'll post pics when it's done.

Using a fridge/freezer combo for lagering

I have been doing a bunch of searching on this website looking for how to wire up a temperature controller for a refrigerator/freezer combo. It seems like most people that do a temp controller use a freezer, not a fridge/freezer. Is there any reason for this, or am I just not searching hard...

Newbie high OG question - Dandelion Wine

Well.. it's bubbling away now... Just noob paranoia I guess. Still can't figure out why all of my batches so far have taken around 72 hours to show signs of healthy fermentation. I thought things were supposed to take off much quicker.

Newbie high OG question - Dandelion Wine

The recipe doesn't say anything about what the OG should be. I got the recipe off of the Jack Keller winemaking website. I am using recipe #3 and it was a recipe that he has made before and recommended. I followed the recipe exactly, even measuring out the sugar on a scale. I'm less...

Newbie high OG question - Dandelion Wine

I'm making dandelion wine for the first time and I'm following the recipe at the end of this post and I have a really high OG (1.131). Here is what I did: Day 1 - Assembled dandelion water, juice, pulp and sugar. Added 1 campden tablet. Day 2 - Added nutrient and yeast (Red Star...

    Harvesting Dandelions

I have some dandelion wine in the primary right now. This is how the wife and I prepared the flowers. This is the recipe I used and it smelled great when boiling and smells excellent in the carboy. I'm going to pitch the yeast tonight (I added a campden tablet last night to sterilize...

    Beer bottle label removal

x2 I just started getting into brewing and wine making and a soak in some warm water for a few hours and most labels pull right off leaving only a slight glue residue that easily comes off with a scrub brush. The stubborn ones (foil labels, Sam Adams Variety Packs, etc) I scrape with a...

    New brewer from Erie, PA

I joined the page.. Can't find a location for the meeting. Is this a club for beginner brewers also? Seems to be some hardcore brewers in the club. My two plastic buckets and seven carboys is no match for huge stainless steel brew set-ups and people milling their own hops that they grew...

    New brewer from Erie, PA

What, where, when, how... :rockin: I've been looking for a local club. The closest thing that I stumbled on was the Erie Beer Society. This Saturday I'm going to be working on putting new axles under my buddy's Jeep, but depending on the time, maybe I could stop out.

    New brewer from Erie, PA

Yeah... since the lake is only a mile away, I tend to take it for granted sometimes and think that it's the same everywhere. You mean not everyone has access to excellent walleye, perch, and steelhead fishing? :D
