It was an all extract version. It was one of the first kits I tried to do. If I remember correctly it came with a huge amount of specialty grains to steep so it was almost a PM in that respect.
It actually came out very very good. I still have quite a bit of it left and so far it's gotten better with age. I've never had the original so I can't compare it, but it's a very good RIS.
I'm sitting on a Stone Brewer Russian Imperial Stout kit from them right now that I'm planning on brewing this week. From my initial inspection. the instructions and ingredients look very good. I just wish they would post their instructions online like Midwest and NB.
Thanks for the reply!
So in a nutshell.. RDWHAHB :drunk: I'll just leave it in the primary for a good 4-6 weeks which was my original plan.
Any thoughts on moving it to a secondary to bulk age for a few months, or is bottle conditioning just as effective?
Also.. After day 3 should I...
I ordered a Chocolate Orange Holiday Ale from AHS. Can't wait to brew it up.
Description:
This flavorful holiday recipe is sure to be a crowd pleaser. Its subtle cinnamon and orange flavors accentuate the Belgian chocolate. Malto dextrin gives the beer a smooth creaminess. It features...
Hi Everyone,
I'm getting ready to brew a Stone Brewery Imperial Russian Stout recipe kit from AHS and wanted to get a few tips before I begin brewing this BIG beer. This kit was not cheap, so I want to get my gameplan setup ahead of time. The target OG is 1.098 I believe.
This kit came...
I've only been brewing a few months, but I've just had one of those DoH! moments..
I keep all my fermenters in the basement (including carboys) and out of direct sunlight. There is some small windows that allow a little ambient light, but nothing much and non direct. I haven't been covering...
I don't have one on that bottle (I have more on order), but the two other carboys that are sitting on the same table show 63 degrees. The blowoff tube is releasing a CO2 bubble once every 8 seconds or so.
My house is about 72 degrees right now. Do you think I should move it?
I haven't taken a gravity reading on this batch. In fact I didn't even get an OG reading on it. This batch has been kind of a trainwreck from the start. I should never try and brew after a 10 hour workday :)
This is a Surly Furious clone which is a heavily hopped beer. When I transfered...
I'm having a (perceived) little issue with an extract kit I brewed Monday night. It's a clone kit from NB and they were out of the normal Wyeast 1335 that the kit usually comes with. They decided a good substitution would be their NB Neo Brittania strain which has an optimal fermenting temp of...
