    To cold crash or not?

I'm curious about what would happen if I have some mold growing on top and then I cold crash. Would the mold spores drop to the bottom too? I am dry hopping, 2 oz of Cascade in an APA, since Monday 4/16. When I dropped the hop bag into the brew I noticed some small white spots that looked...

    Dry Hopping

Going to do the same this week anticipating bottling 4-6 days after. Does it matter if they are pellet hops that i'm dumping in primary, bag free? Thanks !

To hop bag or not hop bag?

Could you even use this to filter out the particles when pouring the cooled wort into a plastic bucket fermentor? Perhaps use a larger PVC piece?

My first beer in progress - does it look as you might expect?

Just curious, what are you brewing in there? I didn't take my gravity readings for my first batch either because I didn't have a hydrometer. My first was a brown ale that I finally had a chance to drink yesterday, which was good. I love the analogy someone posted on pit bbq being similar to...

    Belgian wit recipe, any thoughts

Bumping up this old post on belgian wits to ask a question I can't seem to find the answer after searching through the other related posts. I'm curious to know what happens to the orange peel and coriander while fermenting. Specifically, if they will continue to float on the top or will...

My second batch is extremely astringent

Yup, this much I do know :drunk: I think I was upping it (unneccessarily, but to no detriment I hope) up to 170 to take into consideration how much the water will cool (strike temp?) when adding the grain bag. I'll shoot for the lower range for my next batch. Thanks!!

My second batch is extremely astringent

Kind of along these lines, if I may ask, what temp is considered super hot? What is the hottest the water should be to steep? I've been aiming for 155-170.

    How did you find us?

Hello... I found this site when I did a google search on something I'm sure I was obsessing with, either fermenting temperature, or keeping in primary vs using secondary, or whatever it was. I was doing it on my iPhone so the first thing that came up was HBT, and the link when clicked had the...

    Goose Island 312 Clone Discussion

Hi, I'm researching 312 extract clones and wanted to know how this worked out for you? Did you end up with something close? Have you tweaked it since you posted last? I am a Chicagoan living in the SF Bay area and I really miss 312, though we are not lacking for good beers out here. Nothing...

    racking to secondary - neccessary?

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to continue with my plan to use only the first I had done a search using several different strings prior to posting, but wasn't coming up with anything so I figured no harm in posting this question. Hope this doesn't cause too much of a problem...

    racking to secondary - neccessary?

Hi, first post, newbie brewer here, just bottled my first batch Sunday. So far so good. HB shop recommends racking to 2nd fermentor to get the beer off the trub to avoid getting off flavors. But I've been reading online that some folks leave it in the primary fermentor 2-3 weeks and then...
