    lets go 1214 lets go..

Heh. I recently used this strain, it took nearly 3 days for my starter to wake up! Better get accustomed to twiddling your thumbs and RDWHAHB-ing.

    What should I do first

Well, since you've already got the cooler I'd suggest building the mash tun. The parts necessary to finish it shouldn't be more than $25 and you can save the rest for your ferm chamber.

Using Washed Yeast for 1st time

I recently used washed yeast for the first time and like joeybeer I made a small starter and then stepped it up to 1 liter, cold crashed the starter for 24 hours and then decanted most of the top liquid before adding the rest to the fermenter. 6 hours later primary was bubbling like mad.

Six Gallon Carboy Enough for Primary Fermentation?

Fermenting in a carboy is pretty common around here. Most prefer to use a blow off tube instead of an airlock just in case the fermentation gets a little wild. A blow off tube is just a length of tubing that fits tightly in the neck of the carboy with the other end hanging down into a small...

    Anyone seen this??

That is actually a really smart invention, at least for major venues like that.

My first all-grain brew day: Blonde Ale

Nice! Your first AG and you've already got a keg for a boil kettle. Jealous.

    loud (and active) fermentation

That looks like an explosion waiting to happen. Gonna get messy.

    Bottling with used bottles

I use twist-offs because I can get them for free and I have found (in my rather limited time as a homebrewer - 5 batches) that they seem to be fine. Granted, I am in Canada and from everything I've read our bottles are thicker than those found in the USA. I do use a bench capper, which in my...

Straight to AG. Is it wise?

I did something similar. I brewed all of 1 extract kit. Then a week later decided to just dive in and go for AG. That was about 3 months ago. Now I've got 2 AG batches bottled and 2 in various stages of fermentation. I have read pretty much everything I can google about the process twice and...

All I needed to do was wait...

Nope, not really. It's more bitter than those, but perhaps it just needs to age and mellow out a bit more. Time takes care of everything, right?

All I needed to do was wait...

Hey! I actually made this very same kit about 6 weeks ago. I would agree that it is quite a bit darker than what I was expecting it to be, but it still tastes quite good. BTW, yours is looking pretty much how mine looked at those different stages.

Could this be my first infection

That is so, so, so clever. I dig. :mug:

    Hi Hi Hi

Hello from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. :) I'm a total noob to home brewing but figured since I love beer (more than bears love honey), it would be a good hobby for the winter that is quickly approaching! I actually dove right in and brewed and all grain amber ale this weekend and surprisingly...
