Help with mash and sparge volumes.

Bottled last night, and I must say that the taste was amazing! Just enough of the oak aged taste/bourbon and a slight hint of bitterness. Similar to a coffee taste to me. I added 1oz of pecan flavoring at bottling and threw it in the closet to age for a couple months. I can't wait to crack one...

Help with mash and sparge volumes.

Transferred my porter to secondary today. I racked onto 2oz of oak chips that had been soaking in bourbon for a few days. Tasted pretty good already, can't wait until this one is done!

How does this raspberry wheat recipe sound?

Got to thinking about the recipe and decided to try my first AG BIAB. How does this updated recipe look for a 3 gallon batch? 3 lbs 8.0 oz Pale Malt (2 Row) US (2.0 SRM) 2 lbs 8.0 oz White Wheat Malt (2.4 SRM) 0.50 oz Fuggles [4.50 %] - Boil 60.0 min Hop 4 12.5 IBUs 0.50 oz Fuggles [4.50...

How does this raspberry wheat recipe sound?

I've seen good and bad experiences with the extract so I figured I'd try it out. I knew I was a little high on the gravity but I'm shooting for a little higher ABV. Thanks!

How does this raspberry wheat recipe sound?

Experimenting on a 3 gallon partial mash recipe for SWMBO. I'm not a fan of fruit beers myself, but she has been wanting me to brew one so I figured I'd give it a shot and try something new. Here's what I have so far: 1.5lbs - 2 row 1lb - White wheat 2.5lbs - Wheat DME .5oz - Fuggles @...

Help with mash and sparge volumes.

Ended up mashing with 3 gallons and sparging with 2. I only had to add around 1 gallon to get to full boil volume with the LME. I ended up hitting my og right on target. And didn't have any problems, not a normal brew day for me lol. Now, let's just hope everything else goes the way it should!

Help with mash and sparge volumes.

Didn't think about the LME adding volume. Thanks!

Help with mash and sparge volumes.

After thinking a little more about this, I realized I forgot to account for grain absorption, so I probably will have to top off pre boil. I am trying to make sure I do everything the right way, as I plan on entering this brew in a local home brew contest in December. Oh, btw, it's a Pecan...

Help with mash and sparge volumes.

Attempting my first mini-mash tonight and I want to make sure I'm on track with my water volumes. My total grain bill is 4lbs with 5lbs of LME. Planning on mashing with 2.5 gallons and sparging with 3.75 for a total boil volume of 6.25. I'll hopefully end up with around 5 gallons post...

First 5 gallon batch in fermenter!

I'm not 100% sure fermentation was complete. I did test the gravity and it was at the target FG according to the kit instructions. I got impatient and racked to secondary before testing it a couple more times to make sure it was actually done fermenting. But, I tested before bottling from...

First 5 gallon batch in fermenter!

The hefe had been in bottles for 12 days so Friday morning I threw one of the 16oz swing tops in the fridge to chill. Popped it open last night and it poured a straw color with about a two finger head. Appearance was great. The taste, on the other hand, not so great... It has an off flavor...

    Keggle Vs. Kettle

Agreed on moving a 9 gallon pot full of hot wort. Forgot to mention it in my reply but I thought that when I first read your post.

    Keggle Vs. Kettle

I would go with the keggle. Yes, you'd have to buy a stand alone propane burner but the cost is minimal for a decent one. The keggle would give you the option to move to 10 gallon batches if you ever decide to.
