My top 10 tips for new brewers

    Excellent post. Thanks.

How much lemongrass in a wheat beer?

I put about 5 oz in a 5 gal batch, dropped in at 3 min. Used Soriachi hops at flame out. (recipe was an IPA). When I bottled, I was blown away by the aroma of lemongrass and was worried that it would be too much. After conditioning at room temp for a couple weeks and then a few weeks in the...

How much lemongrass in a wheat beer?

Well I plopped a small handful of stalks in at 3 min. Soriachi went in at 5 min. I have added about 2 pounds of honey at around 5 minutes to this otherwise very basic "two hearted" recipe a few times (sans soriachi and lemongrass), which has amped the ABV a bit and seems to really clean up the...

How much lemongrass in a wheat beer?

Brewing with lemongrass fresh picked from my yard tonight. Doing an IPA, sort of a honey-amped version of a two-hearted base recipe. Got a couple ounces of soriachi ace, considering switching one ounce in... Lemongrass is going at 3-min. Hopefully this oatmeal brown that is finally ready to...

    My Year in Beer

It's been a true pleasure. Thanks for sticking with the thread, hope to share a pint with you some day. Feel like I already have-

Brews that get better with age.

So far all of 'em! But I don't have any that have aged that long. Even 2IPAs, which I thought needed to be downed within a couple months, have been great when I find them in the back of the fridge 8 months later. Just seems like everything is settled, the beer is clearer and more crisp.

    Tuesday suds

Enjoying a Lagunitas Imperial Stout right now. Not gonna crack my top-5 list of stouts, but not bad, I'm enjoying it.

    Imperial Stout missed target

How long has it been in the primary? Oh, and what was the temp when you took your reading? I'll avoid giving suggestions since I'm a rookie, but thinking out loud (well, you know what i mean) I'd say if the reading is stable for a few days you are at your final gravity. Good luck! -Brett

    I need your opinions...

DOH! Guess you'll have to force that moonshine on him straight up. Hope your beer works out. I know that pressure, I just had a friend over last night when I brewed, trying to suck him into the process. Best of luck to ya both-

I'm switching to Better Bottles GRAPHIC

Well, I for one would have a VERY hard time not lying about those scars and coming up with some kind of very interesting, violent, heroic shark bite story. Or one that starts off with "There I was, there I was, there I was... in the jungle..." Not that brewing injuries aren't just as glorious...

    I need your opinions...

Not that I am asking because I know WTF I'm talking about, but: 1. How long was it in the bucket before you opened it for this reading? Was it the first reading - and if not did the first crack at it look different? 2. Might be a funny photo effect, but how much head space is in that bucket? It...

    I suck at bottling

I feel your pain. My first batch was one comedic disaster after another, literally from the first boil-over to the spilled 3 gallons on my office floor. And yes, "first" boil-over implies that there were >1. To be honest, I'm not a very detail oriented person. But I did take the time to write...

    Don't Squeeze the Sparge.. Why?

Would it be poor form of me to invite my neighbor over just to squeeze my sack? I think if I ask nicely she probably would. The gent I buy my supplies from prints a "how to brew" cheat sheet, and gives a brewing class every week, with "Don't squeeze the bag!" underlined and bolded in his...

SWMBO has had it with my kitchen brewing.

I get the feeling that mine is getting ready to just plain ole' kick me out! Something about loving my homebrew hobby more than her, mumbling hops schedules in my sleep, etc...

First recipe from scratch - Black IIPA

Congrats on taking the leap into scratch recipes! Along with Belgian Strongs, IIPAs are my favorite beer and black IPAs - even better. I don't have much advice for your malt selections, but I tend to agree with the advice regarding the hops. With the black IPAs, heavy hops are needed to...
