Sweet thread man, I don't have any advice, but had basically the same question. I live in northern Michigan & was going to set my fridge up on my unheated but covered porch. Maybe it'll be inside in the winter. . . .hassle. . .but probably worth it.
Dark Horse Crooked Tree ipa. Every spring & fall I go camping up on lake Superior. Couple of the dudes that have gone work at Dark Horse. Even if they don't go, dude that owns the property lives by Dark Horse & they hook him up.
Anywhoo always a couple kegs of Crooked Tree, the first...
Cool, thanks for the advice. So it'd be worth to upgrade to their "standard" kit & choose a larger CO2 tank, & consider longer beer lines. All good to know, thanks again.
I'm completely new to even thinking about building a kegerator, sorry if this has been gone over to death in this forum. . .
Does this kit really have every thing I would need for the conversion (minus fridge & kegs)? I'm not what I would consider "mechanical" & am looking for cheapest...
Blowoff tube, cool. Should be bottling the blond next weekend & have ingredients for trippel, guess I could do bottling & brew day next Saturday. Big beer day!
Thanks for the replys. solbes, your #1 example is fairly close to what I'm planning, the cake is in a 6 gallon glass carboy, to skim the yeast should I just swirl & pour it into a jar leaving thicker trub?
So pretty much agreed that just pouring wort onto whole cake = overpitching?
I have a batch of NB's Lefse Blond in my fermenter right now & am contemplating using the yeast left in the bottom after bottling for a second brew. Was planning a fairly high gravity over hopped Belgian wheat/Trippel.
Is this feasable? can I simply pour cooled wort directly on to "cake"...
Right on man, got mine a couple of days ago & was quite concerned that nights are still getting down to low 20's here.
They are impressive! So in an effort to not harm my new babies they're potted on the kitchen sill right now. Tommorrow they'll start spending daytime outside, for a week...
They are awesome, just got my Cascade & Chinooks. Huge! & look healthy, a bit worried as it's still getting down to low 20's here at night. . .so I have them potted right now. . . anxious to get these bad mofo's in the ground!
Anybody in Michigan north of T.C. see this anywhere? Been fiending for a taste, I've got stacks of Hopslam, both at my grocery store & party store, but cannot find any Ruthless Rye!
