What if I want to make this into a 5gal recipe? Can I just throw all the ingredients into BeerSmith? Should I go light on any?
Also, I'll update you with my Pumpkin Pie Porter. I've upped the pumpkin to 60oz.
So, I plan on taking this recipe and making a Pumpkin Pie Porter out of it. I'd love some constructive advice because I'm fairly new to brewing (only brewed about 4 batches).
I was thinking of using about 2 cans of Libby's pure pumpkin in cans (15oz each). Spread the cans out on a baking sheet...
I'm racking to secondary this weekend, so I'll let everyone know how it goes. I only steeped 4oz of coffee (instead of 5oz) and added 1.25 lb of baker's chocolate (instead of 1.5lb). Depending on how it tastes, I'll decide if I need more coffee or chocolate flavor. If so, I'll add cold brewed...
Wow you used MORE chocolate? I was under the impression that this recipe had a lot of chocolate to begin with. I actually used a little bit less that what was called for. Depending on how it tastes, I may add something chocolatey to secondary (in addition to my bourbon vanilla extract)
Two questions. First, how is the mouthfeel of this beer? Is 16oz of flaked oat enough to give it a full body? Should I add some malto or lactose? Second, do you think this beer would improve if I added some vanilla to it?
I'm brewing an extract breakfast stout this weekend, but I want to make sure it is very full-bodied when all is said and done. A few people who have used this recipe before have said it is too light-bodied, so I don't want to make the same mistake.
What steps can I take to make sure my...
I stopped the timer. Took about 5-7 minutes to get the boil going again. I'm not sure if that was the right thing to do, but I've heard it doens't really matter too much.
I'll be dry hopping this batch this weekend hopefully. Will give you all updates on its progress.
Yea I ran it through last night after I posted the recipe. I think I'll change the schedule to something along the lines of:
3lb Golden Light DME at 60 mins
0.5oz at 60 min
3.3lb Golden Light LME at 15 mins
1oz at 15
1oz at 10
1oz at 5
1oz at 1
Thoughts?
What do you guys think of this recipe? (I modified the original). Im going to do a 3gal concentrated boil.
Fermentables:
3 lbs Golden Light Dry Malt Extract (60 min)
3.3 lbs Golden Light Liquid Malt Extract (15 min)
Specialty Grain:
1 lb Weyermann Munich 1
0.75 lb Briess Caramel 20
Hops:
1oz...
So, I'm very new to homebrewing, but I'm going to attempt to brew a Citra Pale Ale. I can post the exact recipe later, but my question may be able to be answered without the recipe.
I've been reading a lot on adding some malt extract to the end of the boil instead of all at once in the...
Thanks for all of the advice everyone! Im much more confident in my beer now :) In fact, I went to check on the beer and sat and watched it for a couple minutes. About every 30 seconds a big bubble is released from the blowoff tube, so there is definitely fermentation going on in there.
And...
So, I tried to brew my first batch last night. I know everyone says "Dont worry, Relax, have a homebrew". But I really think my yeast is dead.
So, I severely underestimated how long it would take to cool my wort before pitching. Not to mention I was trying to cool 5 gallons instead of a...
