    backsweetening and carbing

I use the layman back sweeten/carb method. I just back-sweeten to flavor and cap. as I do this, I also fill a 1 liter plastic soda bottle. after a few days, I give the soda bottle a squeeze. As long as the pressure matches (or is less) than what a normal soda bottle would feel like, then...

    Juicer?

Lactose powder after fermentation will add sweetness but will not reinvigorate the fermentation process

    Answered my question. Thanks!

    Man, I love Apfelwein

30 days into my first batch and fermenting is about done. Few questions: Should I transfer to another carboy for conditioning or just let it set in my primary? I bottle my cider and like carbonation. Do I have to bottle now and back sweeten for carb? Or can I let this batch sit longer and...

    Apple blackberry cider

Sounds yummy. So you added the blackberry from the start? Did it keep a lot of the berry flavor or ferment out?

    Everett homebrewer! Anyone else?

Everett here too! I've only brewed cider tho. I like how easy it is to make a batch and the high alcohol content lol. Plus the minimal ingredients. Anyways, good to hear others from the area are on here. Homebrew Heaven is my new favorite shop too!

Fantastic Hard Cider Recipe with Instructions (and fall spice / cherry variations)

Just did a batch off of this recipe. Monatrect yeast, 4 gals Trader Joe's unfiltered apple juice (cider more or less). 2 week ferment until next-to-no air lock activity. Back sweetened with 1/2 gal TJ's unfiltered apple juice and 1/2 gal TJ's regular Cherry Juice and bottled. Trial taste...

    ok- now what?

I'm a newbie and don't have numbers for you but for what it's worth my 5 gal batch barley bubbled just before bottling. I added 2 cans of concentrate to the whole batch when I bottled. It was highly carbed in 3 days. I had to stove top pasteurize (very easy) to stop the carbonation.

First brew! kept it simple and would like some suggestions

First brew! kept it simple and would like some suggestions

Just wrapped up my first batch! I back sweetened with 2 cans of concentrate and bottled. After 3 days carbonation was nice. Tried a bottle last night after chilling and it was great! Fresh, crisp with a light apple flavor and moderate carbonation. Stove top pasteurized the rest of the...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Thanks. Ya, my 1st batch is exactly what the recipe calls for. Well, actually my fist batch is in the making right now (letting the foam settle after shaking in the dextrose). Ugh, so much info here I don't know which yeast to commit to! I have the the 5 star but I also have a Nottingham I...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Gonna do the standard recipe suggested for my first go around. But, should I add yeast nutrient to the mix?

    Man, I love Apfelwein

This recipe has rave reviews but is in the wine thread. Is it just like cider? or is it more like wine? can I back sweeten to bottle and add carbonation?

    Sour and gross :(

Sounds great! I'll try that! Hope you can salvage your batch TC

    Sour and gross :(

Wondering this too for my 1st 5 gallon brew. As a rule of thumb how much is acceptable to back sweeten and use to carb when I bottle the stuff? I will pasteurize the bottles once I get the carbonation I like. I know the amount really varies but just curious mostly for getting in enough to add...
