How do the craft breweries heat their equipment?

You cant go wrong with an electric system. simple to operate, great temperature control. spare parts easy to get and install. Steam is hard to regulate and control stay away from it if you can good luck

If you were going to get a 1, 2 or 3 bbl system which would you get?

Ok Here is the question. Are you going to be a large home brewer or a small commercial brewer. We ran Blichmann 1 bbl and then a 2 bbl systems as a small commercial brewer and then changed to all Stout equipment. Huge improvement in repeatably, quality and greater yealds. Try Clamp...

3-in-1 "Boil Kettle, Jacketed Chiller, Conical Fermenter" by Brewha

Mdime Add some water. Not all grains absorb the same amount of water per pound. So if you do not have a good looking mash add to it. If you get too much liquid then you can boil it down a little bit more. OR maybe you just have to stir your mash more and wait a little longer...

    mash tun with reflectix wrap

I have run many batches and controlling the temperature of the MLT is always important from a technical point. but in practice consistency is number one in my book. If you always loose 5 degrees thats ok. All the gadgetry required to control your MLT is just not worth the effort. I must say...

Using a plastic food drum for fermentation in a nano-brewery?

I agree with your buddy for fermentation use SS or glass. With plastic you will never know when you get an unwanted infection You will make brewing decisions on future brews with flawed information For your Mash Tun or your HLT plastic is fine.

Questions on running 2 120v elements on 1 PID

Munkee I see lots of people making similar set ups and that is fine. But IMO you are better off just building a BK with electric controls. Make your Hot water in the BK and pump it over to the MT and then make your sparge water and send it to a HLT and hold it there until needed. good luck...

Electric Kettle: 1.5" TC and Ripple Element question

I agree you should not have a problem... As for all grain its easy. 10 gallon Rubbermaid cooler and false bottom and your off and running. all your doing with all grain is making wort. all your doing with extract is making wort. all grain IS more fun

Best Bitter Special Bitter (1st place HBT Comp)

5 year old bottle This is an interesting UP date on the Original Beer. Last week we found a bottle of this beer in our root cellar. It was a 22 oz bottle and after cooling it down I gave it a try. We split the bottle 5 ways and everyone agreed it was excellent. Good carbonation, nice...

Home Super Brewery Build: Hybrid Electric/Gas 3BBL Build

We use just standard elements and have no problems with them. Our cleaning process is simple. We only use PBW (and Starsan). We use it to clean kegs, bottles, the plate chiller, pumps and the conicals. Our conical are not easy to clean. Our next step is to move to a couple 7 bbl...

Home Super Brewery Build: Hybrid Electric/Gas 3BBL Build

Marcb Last week we ran into an interesting problem. We run three elements in our BK and some time towards the end of the boil we took what looks to be a chunk of trub on top of two of the elements. The trub burned (charred) and caused a smoky smell. Not sure if it was going to...

Yes You have two 1.5in TC drain connections. one from the BK and the other in the MT. You will want to drain directly into your floor drain with a similar hose to the one we use. While you cant keep all the water off the floor this will help. I would also recommend...

Ok did I forget to tell you we put the MT on 4 in blocks? You will also want a 1.5in TC adapter and drain hose. One works fine for us.
