    Yeast from a brewery

From now on, that's what the plan will be. If I plan ahead, he can pull directly from the dump valve. I did that once and it was great.

    Yeast from a brewery

I should have stated also that we started the yeast on Saturday. It was not active when we pitched it but figured it would come through.

    Yeast from a brewery

I have a batch that is not kicking off. We brewed it on Sunday and pitched a yeast cake at about 4pm. My choices are to buy yeast from the brew supply store on Tuesday or collect yeast from the blowoff tube at a brewery today. Any thoughts?

    Barrel aged Rasputin

I've done several standard stouts and added beam aged oak chips to the keg. Best result were lightly toasted chips, soaked in beam for six months or longer. Added about 1/3 cup to the keg in a hop bag. Taste was best between 3-6 months. Longer and it seemed to get bitter. Same with adding the...

    Tri-Clamp heatsticks

We finally finished our heatsticks and used them for the first time last weekend. We built one 120v 2000w, and one 240v 5500w. The 120v is just powered on/off with an inline switch. The 5500w is controlled with an Auber PID an SSR. The most difficult part was getting the half couplers...

    Simple hood

Yes, I meant water heater. Cost was about $75 since I already had the pan laying around.

    Simple hood

Here is a hood we pit up on this weekend and it worked pretty well. Aluminum water bearer drip pan with 7" flashing riveted inside. 250cfm inline duct fan. Adjustable shelf brackets. This worked good enough for us using electric, but would not have been enough air flow for propane I think.

Grain mill. who has the best bang for the buck.

One more for the barley crusher. I put it on my Christmas list a few years ago and Mom bought it! I'm loved.

    Purchase an electric heat source???

If your stuck with 120v in an apt, I would suggest using two 120v heat sticks. One on the kitchens gfi, one on the bathroom gfi. A friend of mine uses two 120v sticks in his garage for large boils. Both sticks will bring up the temp pretty fast, then you can remove one to maintain the boil...

Does anyone have pictures of 14.5 Gallon Stout Conical?

I have the 21g, pretty much the same except it has a tri-clamp fitting on the lid. A bung fits right into it for an airlock, or attach an elbow for a blow off tube. I love the whole set up.
