    Brewhouse efficiency for Dummies

Thanks for the replies, guys. I'm just trying to figure out if I'm doing everything the right way. I see so many people on here fret so much over efficiency. I really didn't even measure the efficiency on my first two AG batches, but they tasted very good to me, so I was happy. I will...

    Brewhouse efficiency for Dummies

Me being the dummy in this situation, I need some help understanding this concept. I understand what it measures, but I do not fully understand each element that goes into the calculation. I recently bought BeerSmith to use with my last batch (third AG batch, first ten gallon). The batch was...

    Question about sanitizers

I read the thread on sanitizers tacked to the top and I was wondering if you can get any of the no rinse sanitizers at Wal-Mart or other big stores. I have been using star san, but I recently moved and we still have half of our stuff in boxes. i apparently didn't put my star san with all of my...

    Question about 10-gal batch

I put it into BeerSmith, and it did double all the grains and basically doubled the hops. The original called for 2 oz of Crystal at 60, 1 oz at 15, and 1 oz at 5. After scaling it, it called for 3.91, 1.96, and 1.96. Wish me luck....oh and I am open to any suggestions one might have when...

    Question about 10-gal batch

I'm still pretty new to AG brewing. I've done three kits so far. I'm looking at doing a ten gallon batch next. I usually get the recipe kits from Austin Homebrew. My favorite that I've done so far is their Texas Red. The kit comes as a five gallon batch. Is making a 10-gallon batch as...

    Ingredients question

How do most on here go about acquiring ingredients. I live in Central Texas with the nearest big (well bigger) city being Waco. There is only one store in Waco that sells any homebrew supplies, and their selection is absolutely horrific. So, the best option I have found is to order...

    Just tried my first AG

I read John Palmer's chapter on all grain brewing about 25 times before I began. It gave me a decent understanding of the whole process. When I got my AG recipe kit, I basically went by the instructions that came with it. Are you looking for tips on equipment? the AG process? all of the...

    Just tried my first AG

After 5 weeks, I just cracked open my first AG brew. It is a brown ale. Not bad at all. I think another week of conditioning will make it just right. I will be bottling my second AG batch tomorrow, a red ale. I will also start my third batch, a wheat ale. I am offically hooked.

    No carbonation

Fresh Yeast--No. I have never added fresh yeast and this is the first time I've had any trouble. How old was the yeast?--Not sure, but I order from Austin Homebrew. As far as I know, they always provide fresh ingredients. Sugar--I used 4.5 ounces of priming sugar that came with the kit...

    No carbonation

I bottled a blonde ale about 4 weeks ago. I haven't gotten into kegging yet, but I almost have everything I need to begin. Anyway, the blonde ale doesn't have any carbonation. It is the first time in 6 batches that I've done that I haven't had any carbonation, and I don't think I did anything...

    Greetings from Texas

Will do..I get up to the Metroplex every now and again. Are there any good home brew stores in the D/FW area? Right now I order everything from Austin home brew, but if I'm in your neck of the woods, I'd like to check out other stores.

Village Bakery or Gerik's Olde Czech Bakery. Gerik's is on Oak Street (the main drag in town) on the right hand side (just a couple of blocksoff the access road).

If you want the best Kolaches, you have to get off the Interstate. Czech Stop isn't bad, but they are nowhere near the best.
