Sorry it took so long to respond to this..i was away from the home for a few days. I used a generic muntons dry ale yeast...no starter...just added to 70* wort in the fermenter. It took off real nice and it was done after 5 days. Thanks for all the responses and interests. Im glad i brought...
OK...so i may have been a little on the slow side this morning. I picked up my ale pail and sure enough...right there on the bottom was a number 2 in the triangle and an HDPE marking. So if its good enough for the ale pail to use...i dont see why it would hurt to use the ones i got for primary...
What is the difference in the final product though? Are there different flavors, more or less bitter, etc.? it would be neat to see if there was a big difference in the types of yeast used. Thanks for all the replies BTW! It really is nice having so many people willing to answer my...
Im brewing tomorrow and i was wondering if anyone knew if the #2 buckets would be alright for fermenting? It would be nice to brew 2 small batches of the same beer and try different yeasts to see how the final product is affected. Thanks!
Im new to brewing yet. About 4 batches in. I was wondering what type of yeasts should be used with a porter. I bought the Brewers Best Robust Porter kit and it came with a nottingham yeast. I was just curious as to what different yeasts would do the the final product. Thanks for all the help!
Thanks for the info. These have the number 2 in the triangle on the bottom. It would be nice to ferment two seperate 2.5 gallon brews that were from the same boil. Maybe use a different yeast to see what the changes are. I definately want to make sure they are safe to use for my brew tho...
I have recently picked up some food grade 3.5 gallon buckets from some local grocery stores. What im wondering is if they are safe to use as primary fermenters for 2.5 gallons of brew. They all have the marking of HDPE on the bottom. If i cant use them as fermenters i can always use them as...
Haha...that made me laugh a little. its a good point tho..im afraid to admit that im putting the cart before the horse a little on this one. I just want it to turn out good cuz its for my father. He likes a good porter...so im trying to make it the best i can on the small college budget i...
I was thinking of doing that with a real light beer like a pilsner or something. My girlfriend would love a strawberry flavored brew. It might even be something i would like to sip on occasion. Thanks for the advice..it really is appreciated!
Im planning on brewing the Brewers Best Robust Porter kit this friday. What im wondering is how can i up the alchohol content. The estimated ABV is 4.5% to 5%. I was also wondering what would happen if i doubled all the steeping grains that come in the kit? Any help would be appreciated...
I just did a 3/4 boil last night with a Brewers Best American Cream Ale Kit. What i did was use the original recipe and added one lb of pure honey. I was hoping for the honey to make it a little sweeter but now that ive actually thought it out i have no idea what affect the honey could have on...
