Statements like these make me realize that I know a lot less about this stuff than I want to believe.
So, for the type of cider I want to make, it sounds like I'd be better off using a Hef yeast and then priming with more apple cider for bottling? In that situation, how much cider should...
Ok guys, I need to call on your knowledge.
I recently finished up my first batch of Ed's Apfelwein and it came out pretty well. Very tasty, but not entirely what I hoped for. What I want to end up with is a sweet tasting cider as opposed to a wine flavored apple juice. So I started up...
So how many of you called off work today and are enjoying games on TV and a home brew in your living room?
Today I am watching basketball all day, and I'm eating BBQ Beef Brisket that was smoked for 30 hours, eating peppers I canned from the garden, and drinking a Belgian Wit and a Porter...
A buddy of mine and I bought identical Hef kits from our LHBS except he went with the smack pack and I just settled on Nottingham. Mine was pretty good with the dry yeast, but there was a noticeable different with his liquid yeast. If you have the means to go liquid, do it.
I just came across something funky with my yeast. Up to this point I had only used dry yeast in all my beers....although this last batch I brewed up a Belgian Wit and decided to go liquid and used the smack pack. After 3 weeks in the primary (did not use a secondary) my beer basically had a...
Yes.....half the DME up front and the rest with about 15 minutes left in the boil.
Trying to keep all of my extract brews from coming out the same color...LOL
I appreciate the help guys. My reasoning for going with a 3 gallon boil vs 2 gallons is that I wanted the beer to come out a little lighter. And I was also going to add the DME as a late addition to keep it light in color.
I was hoping for some help from some of you guys with changing a few things on a recipe I came across. The current recipe is as follows...
2 Gallon Boil
3.3 lbs Amber LME
3.3 lbs Light LME
0.75 oz EK Goldings 60 min
0.75 oz EK Fuggles 60 min
0.25 oz EK Goldings 15 min
1.5 oz EK...
I just wanted to make sure I understand the reasoning behind this...
I am brewing up a blue moon style tomorrow and wanted to keep it light in color. I am doing a 3 gallon boil and the recipe calls for 2lbs of DME and 3.3lbs of LME. The reason for doing the late addition method is to keep...
At the end of the day they are a company in business to make money...and they gotta have people drink their beer in order to do that. I like several styles they brew, but I also think they sort of shy away from taking chances with their recipes. I am a fan of the White Ale, too.
Just wondering how you more experienced brewers got started with different styles. Did you try to make clones of your favorite beers or did you just throw stuff together to make something unique? I'm asking because I just finished brewing my 3rd batch and in my head, it's almost like I have...
