Heady Topper- Can you clone it?

https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=477834&page=6 This thread looked into the 750 ppm hardness quote from Kimmich and if you use the info combined with the suspected malt bill, you get a mash pH of 5.4 if you plug it into Brun water or similar water calculation sheet. I found the...

Heady Topper- Can you clone it?

https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=465320 See above thread, it is believed that Kimmich was referring to mash temperature ph, not room temperature pH which is what we usually talk about.

Heady Topper- Can you clone it?

I want to point out it was confirmed later that his comments about pH were at mash temps. This was discussed earlier in this thread. I will look and see if I can find the comment number or quote it.

Heady Topper- Can you clone it?

https://youtu.be/amgfgU5-lhs In the above video, Kimmich states HT is 28 days old when it is released. I assumed it must condition in the can for some period of time (meaning brew to can was about 3 to 3.5 weeks), but maybe not. At max, he clearly states 28 days till release in this video...

Heady Topper- Can you clone it?

Didn't Kimmich also say in the Chop and Brew video that time from brew day to finish was 21 days? If so, it is likely dry hopping is being done at lower temps.

Heady Topper- Can you clone it?

Thanks roncruiser, I think our replies crossed in the ether. I am going to dry hop at 68F as it is how I have done other DIPAs (granted not with Conan yeast) and have had good results. I have debated this issue for all my DIPAs in that higher temps usually mean you dissolve more solute, and by...

Heady Topper- Can you clone it?

This is one of the references I remembered for dry hopping at 58F. I know there were others, maybe even on some other sites (I have read a lot the last two weeks, hard to remember everything!). It makes some sense to drop as much yeast as possible, but dry hopping at 68 would be easier (I use...

Heady Topper- Can you clone it?

Not to seem lazy, but after reading this thread, over a couple of weeks, I am still not sure if there is consensus on whether to cold crash prior to dry hopping or not. I have used the recipe from this thread (bobbrews I think) and fermented at 61.5 to 64F for a week. Now raising to 66 for...

    FastFerment conical

After receiving this thing, had a chance to do some fiddling with this thing. Wanted to share one thing I found. A seven gallon bottling bucket makes a great temporary stand that I think will work on brew day. I plan on brewing in a week and will let everyone know how it works. Also, this...

    FastFerment conical

Shipping was supposed to start on Sept. 22 (Oct 1 if you ordered accessories). It is Sept 23 and I have not received a shipping confirmation. Anybody else get their unit shipped yet?

    FastFerment conical

I am planning on making a simple stand using wood that would look similar to the stand they sell. Obviously the wood would be thicker than the steel but the design would be the same, a ring supported by a set of legs. You could make curved "rails" that join to make a ring or just cut a hole in a...

    FastFerment conical

Well it was about time and I did receive an email that units are getting ready to ship. They expect they will start shipping units Sept. 22 and accessories are now for sale. I am planning on building a stand for this thing, but if I wasn't, I might go for the small stand they are selling to help...

    FastFerment conical

It seems that the optional stand is being ignored by lots of people. This stand allows the ferementer to sit on the floor just like a carboy. They are also going to sell a strap type carrier, like a brew hauler, which will mean filling and moving to fermenter is going to be very similar to a...

    FastFerment conical

I just received an email that these will not ship until mid Sept. Will update when I actually receive this thing, or they change the ship date again. To their credit, they will now include a second collection ball, free. I can use that to help harvest yeast and was glad they made the gesture...

    FastFerment conical

I pre ordered one of these and like others, was emailed it will ship the end of August. I had the same concerns about temp control, but figured I could build a large upright version of SOF. It will sit next to the chest freezer I use to store my harvested yeast and hops. If the frozen gallon...
