How to automatically controlling fermentation temps?

I was having trouble finding info on how people were doing this until I searched STC-1000, then lots of solutions popped up. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I'm thinking of using my BCS-462 to control the fridge/heater. Perhaps cool the fridge till the beer target temp is reached...

How to automatically controlling fermentation temps?

I want to use a fridge to control the temps in my carboys, but I'm curious how to control the temps without having to keep adjusting the thermostats. As the yeast get active and start producing heat, the fridge temp needs to be turned down to keep the heat in check. But as fermentation...

    Motorized mill finally finished

I finally ran grain through my mill and I couldn't be happier with the performance. I found a Bodine brushless gearmotor on ebay for $50 that I couldn't pass up. It puts out 90 inlbs at 125 RPM with a 200 inlb peak torque. It fires up beautifully with the hopper full of grain. The down...

    CaCO3 question

This all seemed so easy in first year chem. This question came about after I downloaded TH's EZ Water calculator and noticed the radio buttons for HCO3 or alkalinity (CaCO3). Where in beersmith there is only HCO3. I then found John Palmers residual alkalinity worksheet where there is no HCO3...

    CaCO3 question

Can somebody explain the differences between these three CaCO3 numbers I have received from the city water report? Total Hardness (CaCO3) 7.3 mg/L Alkalinity (Total as CaCo3) 14 mg/L Alkalinity (PP as CaCo3) Not Detected

    Stout Kettles?

I special ordered my kettles and conicals from John and recevieved them a few months back. I've been too busy to put anything in them yet, but they are nice products given the price you pay for them. They few problems I had were pretty quickly dealt with by John. I can't say enough good things...

    Transplanting hops

Thanks for all the replies. I have a open field to plant the hops this year and I'll set up a trellis for them. I'll stick them in the ground as I have lots of great dirt/space. Next year I'll move them closer to the house so watering and maintenance will be easier.
