    Should I worry?

I understand all your points except one. Why would contamination make the bottle explode? I know if too much priming sugar is used it will explode, but contamination? Thanks for the response. Bart

    Should I worry?

Hi Folks, I was cleaning up after bottling my latest attempt at beer, and I noticed that the clear plastic tubing used for siphoning the beer to the bottling bucket, and for the filling of the bottles had dirty patches inside if them. Clearly they were not clean. Two question: 1. I ran...

    Secondary Fermentation

Hello Folks, My Brewer's Best directions says to do a Secondary Fermentation. Should I do it? Does it matter? Does anyone do a Secondary Fermentation any more? Your thoughts. Thanks Bart

Just one of those brew days

I've never had a flawless brew day. Must be nice. Something, big or little, always seems to go a bit awry...... Hope springs eternal.

    UV light

Hi Folks, Turned on the basement overhead florescent lights today for about 6 hours. I totally forgot about the 5 gallon white plastic fermenting bucket that was in the room, full of 10 day old fermenting Kolsch. Normally the basement is dark which is why the fermenting bucket was there. Here...

    Fast ferment

Should I do a second fermentation? I'm basically lazy so convince me that I don't need to.

    Fast ferment

The wort was +/- 70 degrees when yeast was pitched. Stored in a 64 to 68 degree basement.

    Fast ferment

Hi Folks, Making a Kolsch. I pitched the yeast at 2pm Saturday. Then 24 hours later the vapor lock was furious with bubbles. Now, Tuesday 5:11pm and there is no bubbling at all. It's only been a little over 72 hours since I pitched the yeast? Could the fermenting cycle be done this fast? I...

8 beers short of two cases.

The next batch I make I'm going to add enough water to finish up with 5.25 gallons of wort. That should get close to 48 bottles without watering down the beer too much. Thanks Folks!

8 beers short of two cases.

Right you are. I measured my fermentation bucket and it's about a half gallon short of 5 gallons.

8 beers short of two cases.

Never mind. I answered my own question. The answer is: I would have needed almost 6 gallons or wort to make 2 cases. So 8 bottles short is normal for 5 gallons. Sorry for wasting your time. Bart

8 beers short of two cases.

Hi Folks, I did what the instructions recommended. On my fermentation bucket the wort was filled to 5 gallons. When I went to prime and bottle the brew I came up 8 beers short of two cases. Is this normal? And if I want to avoid this in the future can I simply add more water to the wort to...
