I think it's comments like this that that the OP was probably referring to, according to bobbrews if someone uses extracts then they are looked down upon as not a brewer - merely a beginner. :rolleyes:
Howdy, I'm not far ahead of you in regards to experience and I was fretting over my first batches in the exact same manner. The thing I have learned here is have patience and leave the beer be for a while to let the yeast do what it needs to do.

I'm VERY new at this but from what I have read you could boil the water beforehand to evaporate the chlorine and then let it cool off to whatever temp you need.
