    Butterbeer recipe

Yeah, if that is the same kind of butterscotch extract I have used, plan on more like 1 ounce, maybe 2 ounces for a 5 gallon batch. All other spices, figure more like 1/4-1oz.

    Mexian Vienna lager input

Thanks! Website did have a list of recipes and at least one of them was a Mexican Vienna. I think maybe what I'll do is cut out the Victory, leave everything else, but add maybe 1/4-1/2oz of chocolate malt for color.

    Mexian Vienna lager input

I am looking to brew up a Mexican style Vienna lager this weekend. Just a small batch. Here is what I am looking at, suggestions welcome. What I have on hand, 2-row, Pale ale, Vienna, Pilsner, Aromatic, Munich, red wheat, rye, 20/40/60/90/120L crystal malt, coffee, chocolate, roasted barley...

    Roggen beer, thoughts?

Maybe drop the 2-row and go all Vienna in it's place? I only have about a pound of Munich, but I've got about 40lbs of Vienna right now.

    Roggen beer, thoughts?

One of my few disappointing beers I brewed early on was a Roggen beer about 2 years ago. I used S33 and way too much C20. Too sweet, no phenolics. This time around I am using WLP380 Hefe IV yeast, which BTW is a beast. I haven't brewed with it in at least 6-months since I made a hefe around...

    Annual hop buy

Hehehehe. Yeah, I was kind of saying that at the end of my post after yours. A few varieties I just know I am going to be brewing with enough that it makes sense for me to get in 16oz amounts. A good German noble hop or two, Saaz/Sterling, Fuggle/Willamette, Cascade, Centennial, a clean...

    Annual hop buy

Oh, also if they were 2014 hops, eh. I trust their storage and looking at a couple of tests with several year old vacuum repackaged cold stored hops versus very fresh ones seeing no taster ability to discern between them...a year or two old doesn't bother me if they were stored right. That is...

    Annual hop buy

Their website seems to indicate they were 2015 pellets, with a couple in the domestic and import hops being specifically listed as 2014 left overs. I've had simcoe beers a few times, but never brewed with it. I've heard of a lot of love for Simcoe RIS...and I'd really like to get a few ounces...

    Annual hop buy

I am sorry, I can't hear the sound of how awesome my Cluster RIS is. :cross::D

    Annual hop buy

Oh, only issue I have is if I want more hops, I either need to use some of what I have to make room, or I'll need to hide some elsewhere in the freezer, as my basket is officially full to the brim and I am "cut off" according to my wife. We shall see about that!!! :-) My goal is to have at...

    Annual hop buy

Now that I finally have a chest freezer and my own basket in it for my "beering" as my oldest son likes to call it (as in "Daddy, you need to stop beering!"*), I can buy bulk hops! I already have a vacuum sealer. I've gotten a couple of 8oz and some 2oz hops from Morebeer when ordering grains...

    Imperial Stout primary to bottle

A 6 and a 4 gallon actually. I typically BiaB with batch sparging. So I'll do about 2/3rds 1/3rd on the water. I used to be doing a 60 minute mash, then 15 minute batch sparge in 168F water. Recently I've switched to doing no batch sparge for smaller 2.5-3 gallon batches and a 45 minute mash and...

    Imperial Stout primary to bottle

Don't use a secondary. I rarely use one these days and almost only for fruit beers where I drop the fruit in primary, rack to secondary after a week and then cold crash. My RISs I generally let sit in primary for 4-6 weeks, bottle and then shove the case under my oil tank to forget about for...

How many litres of water for BIAB

^ || I do imperial, so about 1 pint per 2lbs, which works out to roughly .5L per kg for grain absorption. Assuming you ring the heck out of the grain bag, if you don't, figure possibly closer to .75L per kg, even if you let it hang and drip a long time. Then you need to figure your boil...

    5 Do's And Don'ts For A New Brewer

@TheMadKing Also plan to toss things that aren't easy to clean, like siphon tubing every 12 months or so. I was starting to get infections because I couldn't thoroughly clean my siphon tubing. Or at least I tried a bunch of different changes in sanitation and replacing a couple of bits (like my...
