    Bikes and beer!

Favorite beer has to be a Marzen, preferably Paulaner. Just finished off a liter tonight! Bike is a Roadstar 1600 - God created the combustion engine for us to use - no need to pedal :-)

High Gravity Brew - no carbonation in a bottle

I also had similar issues with a Bourbon Baltic Porter - OG was 1.084, FG was 1.016. I did not re-pitch, and for that it took 6 months to carbonate. But in the end it was completely worth it as conditioning over the duration really created an awesome sipping beer! :rockin:

    Outdoor brewing in summer

I brew all the time at high summer temps. Start usually around 8am so the brewday doesn't extend too far into the afternoon heat. Did a double decoction last year when the drought temps hit around 110F. Plenty of liquid refreshments can help go a long way! :cross: Hardest thing is to crash...

In austin texas looking for good beer.

Flix Brewhouse in Round Rock (just north of Austin) just tapped a Berliner Weisse https://www.facebook.com/FlixBrewhouse/posts/373667349359962

    Motorized mill project

That is freakin' sweet! :rockin: Very nice job in the finishing touches - definitely a project I want to undertake so I can have both hands free for milling instead of using the drill. Where did you find the motor and pulleys?

Brewing Solo vs. Brewing with a partner(s)

I brew both ways - many times my wife is my brew partner :D; that definitely helps out a lot when I need help milling, doughing in, sparging, etc. Extra hands are always nice. Other times I brew alone for the zen effect as well! Last year I brewed over 20 batches, so the help is always...

Pliny Brewday....not like any other beer.

I brewed a PTE clone several months ago. It was my most expensive 5 gallon brew to date, all in the hops. In total including 2 dry hoppings; I added 1 pound of hops into the batch! But in the end, the beer came out fantastic! :rockin: I still have some on tap but will be long gone very...

    Q about pitching "yeast cake"

I recently brewed a Kolsch where I pitched straight on top of a previous fermentation using the Kolsch yeast WLP029. Fermentation was strong and quick; then racked and lagered to clean up. Beer came out fantastic! :ban: RDWHAHB! :)

    Has anyone brewed with mango?

I also used mango in the secondary. Basically pureed it, then boiled it to sanitize, then placed it into a grain bag into the secondary. Grain bag allows easy extraction after re-fermentation is complete so you can rack into a 3rd vessel for clarification. Base beer was an American IPA --...

    Nitrogen gas mix

I have a nitro setup as well. The typical beer gas mix is 75% N2/25% CO2. Thus driving the lines at around 30 PSI is needed not only to push the beer through the stout restrictor plate, but also to maintain carbonation in your keg. At 30 PSI, you are placing 30/4 or 7.5 PSI of CO2 on your...

Big Beer Carbonation Time - bottle condition or force carb

Conditioning at 70F. My concern is that I want to give this as a present sooner than later. If I give him the bottles now, or in a month's timeframe, he would still have to wait for a considerable amount of time for full carbonation. I assume that it will carbonate in some amount of time...

Big Beer Carbonation Time - bottle condition or force carb

I recently brewed a big beer (9.5% robust porter) for a friend's birthday gift. I started with bottle conditioning using corn sugar. After 4 weeks, the beer is still fairly flat. I understand that it can take a while to carb up in a bottle being a fairly big beer. How long does such a beer...

    Shiner

The Shiner Wild Hare Pale Ale is quite interesting. Definitely more bitter than their other beers, but made with Munich malt to give it a darker color than a typical pale ale. Not too much hop nose, it's all in the taste. My favorite of theirs was the 98 Bavarian Amber -- I can't even find...

    Bud Light Platinum 6.0% abv

Wow, and to think I was thinking how many beer styles have gone Imperial, that we could create an Imperial American Light Lager. Now the trick would be to brew such a beer that actually had taste, yet still low calorie...

First AG Doppelbock - tastes a bit sweeter than expected

The Pliny clone tasted awesome coming out of primary. It is dry hopping right now with 7 oz of whole leaf hops (centennial, Columbus, and Simcoe). Probably the most expensive beer I've brewed, but hopefully worth it since I can't get Pliny here in Texas.
