Imperial Stout Russian Imperial Stout (2011 HBT Competition Category Winner)

Fire away with dry yeast! It will be just fine. US-04 would probably be the closest substitute to WLP002. I used WLP004 when I made it. I don't think the yeast has a lot to do with the flavors in this brew. You obviously wouldn't want a Hefe yeast, but anything english or clean will do just...

Other Half Daydream (oat cream IPAs) - all grain clone attempts

Interesting, thanks for sharing this. I never doubted the other brands as much, especially since they all pretty much flat out say they are conan. I only ever doubted WLP095 just because of my own experience with it and that thread I linked. But I can easily chalk that up to being an...

Other Half Daydream (oat cream IPAs) - all grain clone attempts

I was never all that convinced that Burlington Ale was conan. At the bottom of this thread, there is a quoted email from a White Labs rep, saying it's "Conan Like". They also note in that thread that the temp range and flocc characteristics for WLP095 are different than those noted from other...

Other Half Daydream (oat cream IPAs) - all grain clone attempts

Thanks. I've used Burlington Ale and London 3 several times before. Burlington never really gave me what I was looking for in an NEIPA, and while London 3 always got the job done, I'd like to try an actual conan strain if I can find one.. I'm just trying to determine what the OP suggests...

Can someone clarify the best yeast for this recipe? OP states Gigayeast Vermont Ale but there is no such thing. GigaYeast Vermont IPA (GY054)? Yeast Bay makes Vermont Ale, which is supposedly conan as well. This recipe looks amazing. Can't wait to give it a go.

Brewed this yesterday. I plan on letting it bulk condition for around 3 months, and then bottle condition for another 5+. Can't wait to enjoy it NEXT fall / winter! FYI, for anyone interested in doing a Parti-Gyle brew, I was able to get about 2 gallons of second runnings to make into a light...

Brewer's Edge Mash & Boil Detailed Review

Thanks for the info. I would rather have a pump separate anyway I think. If it breaks, it's easier to replace. And I can pick the pump I want rather than being locked into whatever comes with the unit. I see lots of complaints about the Robobrew built in pump. I was hoping they were going...

Brewer's Edge Mash & Boil Detailed Review

Can I ask where you heard this? I don't see anything on their website about it. I also searched these forums but didn't find anything there either.

Brewer's Edge Mash & Boil Detailed Review

Awesome! Thanks for the suggestions. That's a good idea, just using it to heat strike / sparge water separately from a propane burner. It sounds like there are a few different ways the M&B can help my brew days, whether it's a full eBIAB solution or a just another heating element that I can...

Thanks for the heads up. I did not know that. Worth holding out for.

Brewer's Edge Mash & Boil Detailed Review

Awesome. Thanks! 72% efficiency doesn't sound too bad. Do you have any issues squeezing the bag? I've always heard never to do that for whatever reason. Off flavors I guess.

Brewer's Edge Mash & Boil Detailed Review

Hi. Sorry to revive a year+ old thread, but I thought I'd ask here so others can see, rather than PM you. I'm looking to buy one of the Mash and Boil electric e-BIAB systems. It seems like a great bang for your buck. I've been brewing all grain with a cooler Mash Tun, Hot Liquor Tank...

    Beersmith and Carapils

If you have a consistent process, and your ingredients are consistent, you should hit the same FG every time. If you are using quality grains, milled properly, then brew software should be able to pretty accurately predict how much fermentable sugar is being produced by a mash process at X temp...

    Beersmith and Carapils

From what I understand, adjuncts like Carapils needs the enzymes in modified base grains in order to convert unfermentables into fermentables. For an extract brewer, steeping Carapils would not provide any enzymes, and therefor no fermentables.
