I use slits like yours (mine are cut with a jig saw and are copper) and it generally clears after 2-3 quarts but I still get a little bit of particles coming through. I haven't noticed any astringency yet in my beers that were brewed with the same manifold (that's 20 or so batches).
Thanks guys! It actually started to show some activity last Saturday morning (after two to three days) and is building a little cake now so I guess I just needed some more patience.
I'll look up that shop and I was thinking of just getting one of the rogue kits and then propagating the yeast...
I've been trying to grow some pacman from the slurry in a 22 Ozs brutal bitter. Two attempts appear to have failed. I'm adding the slurry from a few bottles to about 300ml of 1.040 wort made from DME and some yeast nutrient. The temps aren't exceeding 75 degrees at anytime. As far as I can tell...
Ah good to see it works... my brutal bitter yeast doesn't appear to be doing much so I'm drinking a couple of Dead Guys now and I'll add the dregs to the flask after flaming the bottles. Interestingly these bottles of dead guy appear to have a little bit of slurry in them. Some others I...
My first attempt at growing Pacman from a couple of 22 ozs brutal bitters last weekend never seemed to get started. I'm trying it again right now. I'll post back here if it works.
I planted four cascade, two chinook, two fuggles and two centennials this spring. Two of the cascades went into an old wine barrel with miracle gro potting mix, I got about 1.5 - 2ozs dried from those two plants and they ended up being about 12-15 feet in length. I got another 1 oz or so from...
I'm a noob here in the forums but have always racked off to a secondary. When I was getting started I'd read that you didn't want the beer sitting on the trub and potentially dead yeast for too long. I haven't had a bad batch in two years and generally get nice clear beer unless I forget to...
Been brewing for about two years now. The first four or so batches were extract and then I switched over to all grain. I've been brewing only pale ales as those are what I mostly enjoy.
I'm experimenting a lot with various aspects of hops, changing boil times, dry hopping at different...
