HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

Mr_so - so were you triggering the SSR from the sainsmart relay? I will pay more attention to how SSRs are being used from now on.

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

Agreed - I have a number of raspberry pi's and my early experience with them was not all USB power adapters and cables are created equally. Get a robust power brick and good cable and see if that helps. Re-image the card too as the power drops can corrupt the SD.

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

Thanks mr_so - (perhaps) oddly mine appeared to be sticking off, where it would say it was cooling, but no power to the outlet and temps would skyrocket. I took everything apart and to the workbench and did some testing on the two channel relay before replacing with an eight channel. I...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

I had the relay in a new construction outlet box mounted to a piece of plywood. I already disconnected everything and started a rebuild as I got a couple of the new revision 2 Raspberry Pi's to deploy and an extra Uno. I must have wired the relay incorrectly or somehow had a stray strand that...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

Thanks. I'll check the wiring tonight, and swap in an 8 switch relay I have if the 4 port did get fried. Earlier in the thread, I posted where BrewPi would say it was cooling, but the fridge would not be on. A reboot of BrewPi might cause everything to reset and the cooling outlet to come...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

Earlier in the thread, I had some problems that seemed to be related to a relay sticking. I haven't brewed in a couple months, so I didn't really make it a priority to look into. Thanks to Neptune canceling our Florida vacation, I had some time to investigate this past week. I swapped out...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

It is a smaller convenience store fridge so I assume that is possible. I ordered a new arduino and have a couple of 8 port relays I can test with, but will try swapping around the pinouts first. I guess the relay could burn out to the point where it works intermittently, shutting down after...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

So, I set it to fridge constant again (higher temp), and it ran perfectly for about two weeks, and then the it stopped cooling. I plugged the fridge into another outlet, and it worked fine, and there was no power being pushed to the arduino controlled outlet. Nothing changed about my...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

Thanks. The odd thing, that I didn't mention, is the 15 days prior it ran like clockwork staying between 40 and 45 degrees. I should have posted more of the graphic. I may still want to undertake doing something with the relays and thermostats, but it had been working so well.

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

so - I finally had some time to post a chart. I didn't have anything fermenting, so it wasn't too big of a deal. I had it set to fridge constant at 40 when the cart begins, and around Dec 1 it stopped cooling (despite trying to cool) and went to room temp. Around Dec 5, I rebooted everything and...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

I haven't had much time to deal with this so the timing is going to sound strange. Weirdly, I updated the temp to go from 40 to 38, and after 18 hours, the cooler finally kicked on and ran properly for 12h and then stopped, according to the chart. To confirm it was working, I plugged it into a...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

My BrewPi is currently set to 40 degrees Fridge Constant, and it says it is cooling, but it is not running. I suspected the fridge may have died, but a reboot caused it to cool for a bit, and then give right back up. Everything was fine, and nothing was touched to cause this change. Any thoughts?
