chest freezer for 4, ball lock kegs

Just bought a kegging system because i'm over botelling, now i need to keep the beer cold, but i am not handy, i barely have any tools, so i am looking to put 4 ball lock kegs in a fridge without having to build a collar, i'm just going to use the picnic tops I don't have a car so i'd prefer...

Substitute LME with dextrose for crisper/dryer beer?

I have been using 5lbs of LME and 1lb of dextrose instead of my usual 6lbs of LME and no dextrose. Drinking the beer now, noticeable difference! Less head retention, seems like the carbonation is more soda-like, and it is more bitter, almost as if i doubled the bittering hops amount even if i...

    Varnish smell, throw away?

I decided to bottle and drink the beer, it's beer, and it has that varnish taste and smell but i'm the only one that seems to notice, i drank about 4gal of it so far and no headache, no hangover! I got lucky!

    Varnish smell, throw away?

The room where my fermentors are in got pretty hot for a few hours 3 days in a row, i'd say 80 degrees, not going to happen again, i have a AC in there now. It got hot during the first few days of fermentation, It's been 3 weeks now, the beer smells like varnish and paint thinner, i read...

Substitute LME with dextrose for crisper/dryer beer?

Hey that's the thing i did not follow a recipe, and i don't have a hydrometer to measure the gravity. This was just kind of a general question... I used 6lbs of Pilsen LME, 4gal boil for 60min with 1oz Cascade, pitched us-05 yeast after cooling down and adding 1gal water. 1oz cascade dry-hop...

Substitute LME with dextrose for crisper/dryer beer?

I have been brewing delicious beer by using only water, us-05, pilsen LME and hops, but it's always a little too sweet/thick/dark (even f i use a lot of hops in the boil, then it's too bitter and still sweet) so i figured it's because only 80% of the LME i use is fermentable, leaving 20%...

    LME Boil time

So technically i could just boil the hops for an hour to get the bitterness then ad the LME at the very end?

    LME Boil time

last 2 batches of beer i made, i boiled 6lbs briess pilsener LME and hops for 60min, both came out too dark for what i was trying to do for my newer batch i was advised to boil for only 30 min, and use more hops in the boil to compensate. So i did all that , and it looks way lighter, awesome...

    Simple pilsner

oh yeah i started the beer before the thread, 3 weeks of fermentation, conditioned for 10 days so far, it's carbonated, many but very small bubbles and foamy thick head (surprisingly), it's delicious but next time i'm going to try the 30min boil and extra hops for sure.

    Simple pilsner

Thanks, what is a "hot" beer? And what does "dry it out" means? Higher alcohol content? If yes that's what i was trying to do with the corn sugar...

    Simple pilsner

So i started drinking the beer, it's very dark and a bit sweet for what i was going for, what is a 30min boil going to do instead of a 60min?

    Simple pilsner

i used 4.5gal for the boil, the topped it off with another 0.5gal in the carboy

    Simple pilsner

I don't know what i'm doing but from reading and researching, this is how i think i can somewhat achieve the beer i want. One of my favorite beer is mirror pond pale ale (not that i'm trying to make that)... Boiled 6lbs of Briess pilsner LME for 60min with 2oz of cascade hop pellets and 2 cups...

    flat beer... 32oz bottles

Ok i'm getting a bottling bucket. So i need a scale to weight the 4oz of sugar? Could i measure it in a measuring cup instead? if yes how much would that be?
