Crazy about this Tequiza clone - Larger fermented at ale temp

This is the first of what will be many of this recipe....I love this beer:ban: I call it Lagerita because it is a lager which is extremely close to a margarita. I even froze one and it was great. If you try it (and I strongly suggest it ) please let me know what you think LAGERITA (TEQUIZA...

    Apartment Woes: Pot Too Small?

Valve on a BIAB kettle with basket

Why not just eliminate the basket to make more room? The right grain bag is very strong and basket is not much additional help. Maybe in lifting, but you can rig something to lift the bag directly if that is the issue.

Did starch really convert or is my gravity made up of starch weight

Thanks, so this is saying the starch would not show up in the gravity readings...correct?

Did starch really convert or is my gravity made up of starch weight

Because there is such an emphasis on full volume mash and I did not do that. So I am concerned my use of a small amount of water may not have allowed full conversion of the starch to sugar

Did starch really convert or is my gravity made up of starch weight

I have read various post on this site concerning the title question, but have not really seen a definitive answer. When I calculate pre-boil or brewhouse efficiency it is based on the specific gravity achieved after mash in effect. What if full conversion did not take place? Are the...

    Experiment with low volume BIAB

Just finished my first all grain and first BIAB. I wanted to try this grain bill with my limited 5.5 gal pot and a second 4 gal pot. All worked out very well to the fermenter. :D Grain bill 9 lbs pilsner 1 lb Munich 1 lb flaked wheat Mash water - 3.75 gal at 150 deg Sparge water -...

BIAB in small pot low water volume"?

I think what I will try is following.. For 10lbs grain and 5 gallon batch (limited to 5.5 gallon pot); do the BIAB mash in 2.5 gallons of water; then heat another 2.5 gallons in another pot at 170 deg; move the bag to the second pot for some period of time; then combine the two worts into the...

BIAB in small pot low water volume"?

Thanks guys. I was not taking into account the sparging step which is not done in BIAB. I may try a few though to see how much I miss the OG for a designed recipe. Also, I may start adding more sugar as adjunct and see.

BIAB in small pot low water volume"?

I am confused why all the BIAB instructions talk about full boil volume being used (e.g. like 7 gallons for 5gal batch). In normal infusion mashing I always see that 1qt per lb of grain is sufficient - then of course the additional sparging water is added. Can't I continue to use 1qt to 1lb...
