    Stout Mouthfeel

Yeah, live and learn. Sure it won't be the only mistake as I move from extract to all grain, but the flavor was absolutely amazing. So glad I took the plunge and bought the tun.

    Stout Mouthfeel

I was easily 10 degrees off on the mash, first time I brewed all grain and I failed to warm up the mash tun, so it dropped pretty rapidly. Even though there were mistakes, this stout came out great. dmtaylor, I was considering some rye as well, might give it a go with just the mash temperature...

    Stout Mouthfeel

You can see some of the details at https://contributingfactorbrewing.com/?page_id=99. This was a More Beer kit of their Bearded Stout that I screwed up but still came out as the best batch of beer I’ve brewed. The in negative I’ve heard, the mouthfeel is thin. Maybe if I followed the directions...

    First all grain - thoughts

Appreciate the clarification. I did not do anything to increase the OG, it wasn't until hours later I realized why the OG was low. It's in the fermentation vessel and I can only hope it turns out fine.

    First all grain - thoughts

Yes, I steeped the specialty grains for 30 minutes prior to the boil. Never heard of putting the grains into the fermentation vessel. So typically, all grains go into the lauter tun, you don't steep them before the boil?

    First all grain - thoughts

Last Sunday, I spent the better part of 5.5 hours involved in my first all grain brew day. Originally, I picked up a Old Bearded Stout (extract) recipe kit from More Beer, expecting it to be my last extract kit before moving to all grain. Ended up putting together a lauter tun and that extract...

I Heart IPA (Two Hearted Clone) from More Beer

There are some good aspects and I feel good I’ve improved over four batches that have been drinkable. I followed the Palmer method, so a partial boil then added the last 4lbs of LME after the boil was over. I topped off with water to 5.5 gallons before aerating and closing it up for...

I Heart IPA (Two Hearted Clone) from More Beer

I used the WY1056. OG was 1.060 and final gravity was 1.014, so it came out at 6% ABV. I did oxygenate the beer when it was cooled in the kettle to the fermenation vessel. Aside from that, there was little to no oxygen caused by splashing. Air bubbles in the bottling, possibly.

I Heart IPA (Two Hearted Clone) from More Beer

While I should have paid closer attention and bought the extract kit from Bell's I failed and went with the local More Beer shop, I Heart IPA. It wasn't until I was brewing that I realized Bell's sold their own kit and took notice the ingredients were quite different. Brew day went fine, but I...

    Too much priming sugar?

It was nearly 3 weeks in the fermentation vessel, from all indications fermentation was complete. Now the 5-gallons when taking into account the trub could be issue. I will have to see how this new batch comes out. Just bottled it last Saturday and will pop one open tomorrow.

    Too much priming sugar?

I had a few left over bottles that had homebrew in them that didn't get drank, for one reason or anything. A few months on, I decided to pop open each bottle in order to clean and reuse the bottles. When I took the caps off the 3 bottles, they appeared to be under tremendous pressure, enough...

    Where’s the juicy fruit?

I thought knew what I wanted but I turned out nothing that I had envisioned. Again, that doesn’t mean this batch was a failure, as a single hopped IPA it dm still turned out nice. Maybe it moving forward too quickly without knowing detailed characteristics of hops that I was after. It’s a...

    Where’s the juicy fruit?

So by ditching the Crystal L10, I will lose that sweetness that I taste now in the beer. Guess I have more learning to do, in exchanging ingredients. This was a extract kit, so the malts and grains were already included, the only addition I had to make was the hops. So it was my mistake not...

    Where’s the juicy fruit?

Trial and error right? It’s a learning process, guess I was misguided thinking I’d get a bigger fruit flavor from this hop. The beer is still good bit tweaking is necessary if I try this one again. Thanks for the suggestions.

    Where’s the juicy fruit?

Yeah the aroma is wonderful, as expected. I’ll have to re-evaluate and try this recipe again.
