Whoa! When we started brewing we had shelves of grain and a freezer full of hops and we did see a decrease in the freshness of ingredients….now we plan for the brewing order the grain up from the store. We will order hops online for a couple of recipes at a time and keep them in the freezer...
Brewed a Porter with 2 year old hops that were frozen in vacuum bags… not a good outcome…the bittering compound was missing! Had a friend fix it with his still… good outcome…. 😁
Also looking to simplify our brewing and storage of brewing gear! The HERMS system was awesome! We have been wyeast smack pak users, dry yeast- stir plate starter users and have gotten yeast from a local brewery. We also brew at 20 gallons and thinking 10 gallons more often will be in our future.
Well, the current system is pretty dialed in. However you get older and moving around and cleaning really large kettles can be quite the workout…then there is the storage space issue for 3 large kettles! I think AIO will be great!
