    Hartwick Hops

I only have so much left, so I don't want to waste them. That said, I'll get the new ones flowering in August so I'll likely end up using them soon. I made a two test batches, each with a different base malt, and citra and cascade. I think my bitterness levels were pretty on point, but the...

    Hartwick Hops

How was it. I keep not getting around to brewing with them cause the rest of my recipe isn't there yet, I feel. That and I have no temperature control :/

    Hartwick Hops

Just came across this. I have a 3 year Hartwick plant and a 2 year (as well as some others in small pots). My plant looks much fuller than yours, but I don't know if I got any more hops. I'm on the east coast, so I likely have weather more similar Michigan than you. I think the hops smell...

    Incredibly Frustrated With Poor Efficiency

Damn, I have no clue what's causing that. I know how frustrating this problem can be. Goodluck! ...unless you were serious about giving away that equipment, in which case...I hope you fail😈 One last remark: Although I'm sure you've tried or considered it, maybe try a different base malt or try...

Not-Quite-Average NEIPA - Looking for feedback

I subscribe to the FWH/60 min addition as well. Scott Janish talks about it in his book and why you might want to do it, but I don't remember what the reasoning was. To be succinct, hop bittering in a NEIPA is complex; the bitterness comes from multiple sources, not just iso-alpha acids. I...

Not-Quite-Average NEIPA - Looking for feedback

Recipe looks good to me. I like it. I use nearly the exact same malt bill after looking at the average of a bunch of recipes like you did. I didn't calculate out the IBUs you're getting, but everything looks good. Amarillo is a great hop and the rest are, of course, solid too. I like the...

    Incredibly Frustrated With Poor Efficiency

I struggled with efficiency for a long time and think I found the checklist that gets me to a good efficiency. Although I think you already have this locked down, make sure you add your salts and acid before the mash. Stir a few times throughout the mash. Mash with your full volume of brew...

Fellowship of the Drink XXIII: Support Your Local Doug

Sorry if I missed the explanation somewhere, but can anyone explain why this is called "Support your Local Doug"?

Help w deciding on NEIPA Hops

Yea, I definitely know that dill note in Sabro you're talking about. I've used it relatively sparingly and haven't been bothered by it (less than 5% mostly). With even 1% being Sabro I find the blow off smells purely of Sabro, but by the time the beer comes out I don't taste any of it. There's...

Help w deciding on NEIPA Hops

Vic Secret goes well with El Dorado. Maybe add in Mosaic or a more traditional piney hop like cascade or centennial to bring it into balance. For Galaxy, perhaps use simcoe for bittering, and then mosaic and motueka with motueka being more in the dry hop side to brighten the flavors of Galaxy...
