That my friend looks to be a tarantula. Don't know what kind though. Do you happen to have a color picture? Also where do you live and where did you see it?

Yup looks like a tarantula to me too, but I'm no expert In some tv show I saw they have a kind of tarantula the size of dinner plates in south america somewhere... YOWZA

I've seen freakish monsters like that in my basement, just as large, if not larger. The ones we have here are called Wolf Spiders, although the one in the pic looks like it may be of a different family/species.

That is a aphonopelma anax texas brown tarantula. Somewhat docile and make great pets. Looks to be a sub-adult. Catch one for me and ill trade you some home brew'd RIS!!
