    Hello all,

I have made my second yeast starter last night for tomorrows brew of a Belgian Ale. Does this starter need to stay at room temperature while it is going? It is on a stir plate and is very noisy and not enjoyable to listen to. I wanted to put it in the garage but it is in the 40's in there. Not sure if you need to keep this close to the same pitch temp or not. Any suggestions would be great. Thank You

You want the starter close to your cooled wort temp. As with any yeast, too cold and they go to sleep and won't kick off strong - too hot and, well,...it's lights out for our little friends. Keep at room temp and you should be fine.

Why is it so noisy, anyhow? You don't need a crazy fast vortex. Slow and constant will work. The stir plate serves to keep yeast suspended in the starter.

Not sure. I have started turning it down so it does not have such a strong vortex going. will see if that helps. Thanks for the info
