OK I'm making the NB Mustache Envy Belgian Stout It has an original gravity of 1.080 so tonight I'm making a starter using mr malty. I have never used mr malty before and Mr malty says that I need to use a 2 . something liter starter witch is more volume than I normally use. I was wondering when I pitch my starter should I first let it settle then decant some of the wort an pitch mainly the yeast cake or do I pitch the hole thing and adjust my water volumes to account for the extra liquid?

Decant, you want the yeast not the wort. Keep your volumes.

thanks, that makes perfect sense . I want the yeast! I don't know what I was thinking. The high volume of water and dme was just to create strong yeast and a higher yeast count. So the left over wort has surfed its propose and is no longer needed.
