I started a new procedure for making a starter. The procedure is good but thinking I'd get away with 4000 mL of starter in a 5 L flask (I used fermcap) was a mistake.

This happened over a period of a couple of hours while I was out. I sterilized a second flask and poured off 1200 mL of starter, then sterilized the foam stopper and wiped out the top inch or so of the flask with a paper towel dipped in StarSan solution. Will I be ok? I'm thinking that the CO2 getting pushed out of the flask kept any bugs from getting in.

Here's the end result. Both flasks are still fermenting away:

As long as stuff and foam is going out, you should be fine. At times I've lost half the yeast in volcanoes like those.

BTW, don't you think it's time for a stir plate yet?

lol - I have one but the motor's broke. I contacted the company and they'll replace it for me - but I haven't had the time to pack it up and send it out.
