I like american ale okay, but I've never bought a six pack and just drank it alone. I think what it is, for me at-least, American Ale taste good to me because I usually only drink it when I am at a Party or get together that is mostly BMC light beer. I'll drink the light beer, because hey! It's a party right? it's usually after swilling down a bud light that I find an American Ale buried in the bottom of the cool or back of fridge and grab one. It taste really good in comparison to Bud Light. But that doesn't make it the best tasting beer.

Then again, sea-water would taste delicious compared to sewer water.

Edit: Oh, and to the OP, I think BMC would market goat-sweat flavored light beer if their was a market for it.

What about the entire oscar blues lineup (sans "mamas little yella pills") All of those beers are great, they just arent meant to be consumed from the can. The can Is a much better container than the bottle, its skunk proof and oxidization proof, its lighter to ship, and it does not contribute off flavors any more than a keg does.

    Give cans a chance.

That question does not require an answer...:drunk:

But I think it's because they're still learning how to make good beer...

Its probably just me, but I taste metal. Its just like eating off a metal tray. I hate taste and the sound a knife scraping across a metal plate. Think nails on a chalkboard.

Don't get me wrong, if you handed me a can of beer I'd say thanks and pop it open. The only time I get cans is when bottles aren't allowed.

Michelob winter cask ale is quite good. Its put in bourbon barrels to age and has a neat vanilla flavor. The price is nice too! I think for a BMC type beer michelob is kinda on top of the game

Is there a reason you equate Budweiser with corn notes?

Budweiser has no corn in it.

Cmon on now, I been to some bad bars, dirty bars, fairly unsafe for most bars, even bars that had grass growing up thru the holes in the floor where people fell thru,,
but never ever had some one sell me a beer in plastic cup.

havent seen that bareknuckle stuff yet. But I will give it a try.

A friend and I went to a new "Irish pub" in town, sat down, ordered (I don't remember... probably Guinness or something... there wasn't a big selection), and were handed two 16 ounce plastic cups of beer.

Have not returned to the place.

Is anyone really surprised that Bud American Ale is bland and unassertive? Yes, it is better than any NAIL that is usually served up at the local watering hole. But, as all AB brew, it is mostly reliant upon marketing, not flavor, for sales. A lot will have to change for really good beer to come out a BMC factory.

--Oh yea! Just a side note, Good Girls Don't (The Knack) just came on my MP3 player...

But Budweiser is the largest buyer of rice in this country:drunk: I think it's the blend of little malt to heavy rice adjuncts that make it seem to have a similar corn type taste as Miller (which does use corn as its main adjunct).

I see your point. If a beer has a grassy flavor it doesn't mean that one added Kentucky Bluegrass to the beer!

I've never noticed the corn flavor in Bud though.

Does corn have a strong flavor? I always equate maize as being dry tasting (ie corn tortilla vs flour...which seems sweeter). But yeah, I just meant it as a general term for the corn/rice adjuncts that BMC uses to get a dry lager devoid of that nasty malt profile :) Anyway, that dry adjunct flavor is what I also taste in Bud Ale....but maybe it's just because I'm comparing it to a real craft ale....like what it's supposed to be emulating.

And yes, grassy, peaty, can be used for describing a hop vs malt profile....and beers can be chocolaty without having chocolate in them. But now maybe I need to buy a Bud and a Miller to see how different rice vs corn adjunct tastes in a watered down, dry beer....man, this group makes me do too much thinking about beer....even swill beer :cross::D

I'll be sure to do that :p

Only reason I caught that was there were so many errors in the first post I almost thought it should have been in the drunken ramblings forum...

Yeah, me neither. I liked Bud American Ale. I think a lot of people let their hate of BMC blind them here.

That's to be expected, they can't use the shift key either. Too lazy in both cases? Why both trying to spell correctly or use punctuation for that matter?

Our favorite place to go play pool just switched to plastic cups, now granted they are a harder plastic not just a dixie cup, but it still ticks me off.

Hey now what's with all the Guinness bashing in this forum? It might not be the thickest, richest stout on the market, but if it wasn't for Guinness a lot of us would still be drinking Budweiser.

Guinness is an excellant gateway beer for when you first find out that not all beer tastes like watery foam.

I mean come on. Is it really fair to compare Guinness which produces a half-way decent product to the goat piss that comes out of BMC?

Beer snobery can be fun, but let's atleast be fair with our snobery.

The real reasoning behind why there are no BMC Stouts is explained in four words here:

    Garbage in, garbage out...;):mug:

Hey hey hey, let's get something straight Budweiser is the "King of Beers". Hell, if you can buy it at Chuck E. Cheese you know it's the pinnacle of beer.

I tried Guinness as a "Gateway Beer". I'm glad I discovered Young's Luxury Double Chocolate Stout, or I'd never try to brew with Chocolate Malt. I thought Guinness had the worst aspects of a lager and the worst aspects of a stout (kinda like a tip-tronic or paddle shift automatic)

A lot of this phenomenon has to do with the historical progression of beer. Way back before Pilsen made crystal clear pilsener, most beers were dark, because they didn't have a good way of modifying the malt well enough to give it good diastatic value without darkening the malt at the same time. And since most drinking vessels were opaque at the time, it didn't matter much anyway. But the convergence of readily-available glass vessels and the advent of pilseners and similar clear styles brought about this wonderful novelty in the world of beer...holy crap, I'm drinking this clear stuff! It's like when you get your homebrew crystal clear...sure, it's not THAT amazing since all mainstream beer is clear...but it's still pretty awesome. Imagine that happening for the first time...it was all about novelty. And so, clear lagers became wildly popular...jump forward to today, and you still see the lasting effects of that novelty being felt...especially when you factor in prohibition, which decimated all but the largest macrobreweries. It's only been in the last 30 years or so that darker beers have made a resurgence in the US of A...so to expect a mainstream one to do well in such a short period of time is asking a LOT! Give it time...give it time. Bud Ale is the first step...

Youngs just has too much chocolate for my taste. It is one of the few beers I can't finish.

BTW, I really like Bud's American Ale. The Rays ballpark has it on tap and it is a fine ballgame beer.

I for one don't want them to make stouts, they will ruin em and just taste like crappy dark water. Buds watered down American Ale is proof they can't make anything other than watery lagers.
