Lotta grain for a stout, any reason for all the crystal?

Sorry, that is not exactly right. It comes out to just over 8 oz of crystal total, which should be about right for an oatmeal stout.

    It is 1/3lb 40L and 4 oz of 15L...about 9.3 oz total.

My first partial mash is in the tun now. Promash put 7.3 qt strike water at 173f for dough in on 7 lb of 68f to get 158f mash temp. Hit it dead on. Now we'll see how well my bucket in a bucket system will hold temperature for an hour.

When batch sparging, do you still usually use 170f for the water?

Today I'm kegging my American Wheat Ale and cleaning bottles. I was going to brew today but I was too hungover yesterday to go to the hbs so I made an order from morebeer instead and I'll be brewing when that stuff arrives

No brewing today, now that the weather improved it is time (long over-due) to do yardwork. I will be transfering my holiday spiced ale into its secondary and dry hopping it. Will be kicking back later on with some of the pumpkin ale which is now fully carbed and tasting good. Another two weeks and it should be perfect. Cracked open a barley-wine last night, which is now 6 months old, and WOW!.

Oh, ha ha, yeah. It started as a simple grain bill but got more complicated when I forgot what specialty malts I had and the LHBS is closed Sundays;) .

My Cottonbrook Copper is in the works right this moment.

Strike water is in the cooler, coming down to temp. Grains are milled (man I love doing that!) Sparge water is measured and ready for heating.

Basically, yes. Otter Creek used to be my favorite! Can't remember where I got the recipe now, but I actually like it better than the O.C. :D

Hit my mash temp spot on! :ban:

no problem - but let me see how this batch comes out first. it's the first time converting it to AG, so it might need some tweaks. i just remembered that i got the extract recipe from this board, by JohhnyK68: Simple Amber Ale

I have about 10 minutes left in the boil for my ESB partial mash. First brew in a couple weeks and it will probably be the only one in November. Damn holidays coming up too fast.

Just put some more gallons of Flanders Red into the fermenter. Brew went smoothly, except for a ~5 minute sun shower that came out of nowhere! I covered everything, 3/4 covered the boiling wort. I also added some very unfermentable(hopefully) caramel(BLAM style) to hopefully up the body/sweetness once the 'wild' yeast have their fun.

I brewed Friday (California Steam) and Saturday (Hop Head Double IPA)

After a 2.5 year hiatus, because we bought a house and had to make the brew room :). The Brew room was done about a month ago but we still needed some equipment, which we finally ordered last week.

Friday was a little longer because I forgot I needed a garden hose for the immersion chiller. Took about 5.5 hours total time.

Saturdays was faster because I got the hose, total time was 3 hours.

I brewed a Scottish Ale and also threw together a batch of EdWort's Apfelwein. This was my first time doing the Apfelwein. Too bad brewing isn't that easy.

This was really interesting, sorta of going back to my beginnings as a brewer. One pot, the stove & a strainer...some extract and hops. Partial boil w/ late extract addition. Rather refreshing to go start -> pitch -> clean-up in under 2 hours.
