So I pulled a pint of my blonde Ale w raspberry extract today from the keg. The head was about an inch and a half and looked totally normal and beautiful. However, after it subsided, there are now white splotches on the top of my beer. It still tastes great but what the heck is this? Will my bowels pay the price for continuing to drink the rest of it?

Sometimes what you were eating before you had the beer can affect the head but I would not be concerned at all. It looks good, suckRdown and pour another! I love blonde ales wish I could give it a try!

Is it an etched pint glass? If so that could be continuing to cause this but it might depend on the design on the bottom. I have a few globe glasses that form more of a concentrated patch of bubbles in the middle of the glass *shrug*.

''Twas not an etched pint glass.

Was the glass chilled? I get floaties like that when I use frozen glassware.

It was chilled but not frozen. I'll see if the same thing happens with an unchilled pint glass.

Yup seems like something in the glass is acting as a nucleation point and causing CO2 to continually come out of solution giving you a perpetual mini-head of very fine bubbles. You said it wasn't an etched glass (I frequently see this with etched glasses) so maybe there are scratches or nicks inside the glass from normal use? Or dirt/grime/hard water stains/etc?

I've had this happen before too but it was from a sort of bad batch. I don't think it had anything to do with glassware.

I'm having the same thing happen, actually, and I'm confused, too. I don't think it's the glass, because I'll use the same glass for multiple beers. It's only happening with a maibock on tap, while the IPA and the porter next to it have normal head retention characteristics. It's my first lager, so I was thinking I may have done something wrong there. It pours fine with a nice solid head and lace, but pretty quickly dissipates into what you show in your picture.
